It activates when you push the car under hard acceleration, braking or corning. Basically holds an higher RPM with out downshifting. It will automatically pull out of it once you start to drive normal again. It is the equivalent to throwing a ball for a dog one time, Car thinks it is time to play even if your not.

In sport mode, it's very aggressive on when it turns on. Usually a quick in and off throttle will turn it on.

Mine has this switch near the center console to put it in performance shift mode.

As noted above, in sport or track mode, quickly popping the accelerator to the floor and releasing will activate performance shift mode. It turns off after about seven seconds of 'polite' driving. I throw that ball all the time just to see if the dog is paying attention, and she's always ready to play! (The M6 guys just keep 'ball in hand')

Performance shift active is why i didn't get the A10.. Although it probably works great it felt unnatural like it was in the wrong gear. It tried to mimic a M6 but it isn't the same.. on all my 4 test drives I had to hit the gas somewhat to activate it.. then it went out of that mode to quick if i was done for the time being of playing.. Seemed like if someone came on me quick i'd be fumbling around w the pedal to activate it vs dropping it sec faster.. or if it popped out of the mode about the time someone made their mind up to race me..

I'll give the A10 the win off the line with little to no bogging with torque management but with no lift shifting i'm confident im just as fast also the rev match is just to fun around town and very useful on road and autoX tracks..

Don't get me wrong I almost got the A10 but I know I would of been bored not feeling like i needed to manage my own shifting.. Plus there's more to being fast than straight lines lol!

No human is rowing gears in a hundred milliseconds. The A10 shifts “much quicker” than a Porsche PDK which is/was the benchmark for an auto/PDK. I’m a manual guy too but had to try out the A10 here. Plus it stays in the power band 24/7. A manual only stands a chance on a track. Now fun factor still goes M6 and the active rev match is a blast.

Well I find performance shift to be more of a cool feature vs using it in real life. If some one rolled up on me all it takes is me holding on to the downshift paddle shifter and boom it downshifts to the lowest gear for the speed im going...easy peasy and fast a hell.
