2016 Camaro Tire Rub Issues 305's+ (Look out for this)

If you plan to go with 305 tires in the rear of your new 2016 Camaro, make sure you verify your tire isn’t going to rub. The spot that most people will get rubbing on is the driver side rear. This is due to a wire harness placement that causes the sound dampening material to bulge out. You will need a spacer or a tire / wheel setup that allows you to avoid this. Or roll with it and reroute the wire harness.

Going with 305 or 315 /30’s on a 11” rim resolved the issues for most.

Thanks for the great video Sledge. So not much wiggle room back there considering the stock 275/35's are roughly 27.6" and a 305/35 is ~28.4" (depending on tread variations). Hopefully the 305/30's at ~27.2" will be fine. Is it purely a tire height issue, or also a tire width issue?

Great video OP. Did you also have a jackstand under your car? If not you are a braver man than me.

I am a bit confused too about this. Would the offset on 11" wheels prevent the rubbing?

I am going to put 18'x9.5s and 305-45 DRs on my SS. I will move my wire first anyway. hoping also then to find a way to pull in the inner cover so no rubbing takes place. It would be a shame to get dirt in there.

I have 305/30/20 on my 20X11 rear rims and have no rubbing issues. The tires aren't even that close to the wheelwell. I checked yesterday after I saw this vid by sledge and maed me paranoid. I think I can even lower the car an inch easily once a company (hopefully BMR) produces a MRC lowering kit. I think if you go with a 305/35/20 that could be a problem because of the overall tire diameter being taller than a 305/30/20 like some have already stated.

So the 30s are a little less than 1/2 inch shorter than stock. A good plan anyway to pick up a little gearing on the over geared M6 Ss.

I will be putting on my drs I better have a close look at the tires I think I am buying.

Thanks for the video! Please for your safety and also the vehicles safety use a jack stand. I didn't see one in the video and a jack can unpredictably give out at any time!

Curious as well with that size or a 315/30?

Anyone cut a hole premtively during the reroute? I'm debating whether to run 275/40/20's from MT or finding another sticky tire to go with. I've heard of 305's fitting on 9.5's but I dont think the MTs do according to their website

Its the 11" wheel that's probably causing the issues as much as it is the tire.

Agree - dealer wouldnt do it. Had to get 4 new tires (305/30 and 275/30), at least I have my car now.
