Wheel base, track, suspensions geometry/components, floor pans, front horns, rear, ect.. So a 2002 was riding on the same engineering as a 1982 which was the point I was making.

The 4th gens chassis design was an evolution of the 3rd gens chassis but it was not the same. They kept what worked and redesigned what didn't. That's why it is considered a different platform.

From 3rd to 4th gens, I don't think there were many changes to the chassis. The biggest change was the front suspension.

Interesting tidbit; the 3rd gen chassis was essentially the H-body that underpinned the Chevy Monza and Pontiac Sunbird in the '70s.

The worst thing GM did with the 4th Gen was the cab forward design that pushed the motor halfway under the windshield. I know why they did it, slanted the window more to get less drag for better gas mileage. But in turn it was a tough car for the mechanic. Dealers did not want to change plugs on the car #8 was a 2 hour job. I broke a valve spring and SLP dropped the motor on its cradle to replace them all the springs to the "new at the time" beehive spring.

I noticed the similarity too...
By the way in reference to the changes in the design of the front suspension here are the part breakdowns of each.
The top is from a 2002 and the bottom is a 1982.

Never had an issue changing plugs on my 2001 other than it was only a month later that I decided to put headers/exhaust on it. So pretty much a redundant job, but that was my fault.

Ran mine from IL to AZ, screwed around for 5 days in Phoenix & then back to IL & the entire trip mpg averaged 26.89. Still have the receipts somewhere. The 4th gen F bodies had their issues & were not perfect. But for the money at the time with the performance, great cars.

4th gen really was an evolution of the 3rd Gen. But a very DRAMATIC one(visually and performance wise). I suspect that the 5th Gen to new 6th Gen will be much the same. Take a good system and make it better. Lets hope(contrary to the 4th Gen bashing that goes on here) that history DOES repeat itself and we have an awesome car. Because like the 4th Gen or not, and despite some dumbass design flaws and poor sales, the cars stomped MUD PUDDLES in the Ford boys. It wasnt till 2010/11 that Ford had a "basemodel" reply. A 12yr run of dominance on a "evolutionary" design, proved to be pretty awesome.

they didn't choose the best representative of each year so I gathered what I feels are better photos of each. They all look good IMO

^^^Those are much better pictures of all the cars, especially the 5th gen. This is how I would rate them from best to least favorite: 5,1,2,3,4.

I'm partial to 5, 2, 3. Still waiting to see gen6. I had a black 91 gen3 like the one above with 5.7L and mods. I loved that car and it's wing spoiler.
