Tremec Manual Transmission Fluid Swap Video
Hey everyone,
I have posted these videos to other platforms like Facebook Groups and Instagram, etc. but realized I haven't put them here. If you are interested in changing your own Transmission fluid, I made a How-To video for it. Let me know what you think, or if you have any questions.

Thanks- very nicely done. There has been some discussion on this site about the factory manual calling for a 1/8" reduction in the trans gear oil below the fill opening, instead of the usual "fill'er til she drips" rule of thumb. I assume it's to allow for expansion of the fluid when it gets warm.
I've done it both ways without adverse effect (maybe a few drips if the trans gets seriously hot). Any thoughts? And thank you again for a nice post. |

How often do you suggest swapping fluid?
There is nothing in the first post in here https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=531978 (or I am blind)

You are probably aware of this, but the factory manual does say that you can just use the temp sensor as the drain plug. I have always done it this way since the actual drain plug is a PITA to reach.
The factory manual also tells you to use some pipe dope on the fill plug after you remove it. Same for the temp sensor. The torque specs on the fill plug and temp sensor are 20 lb-ft according to the factory manual, so it's probably the same for the actual drain plug. Anyway, nice video for DIYers!

i change mine every year. use the temp sensor as a drain plug. i fill it until it runs out and then carefully use the sensor as a drain again to remove the 8 oz.

Wow!
I didn't know about the temp sensor plug. Now I feel like I need to remake the video on the next trans fluid change! Once I hit the track hours, I will make sure to redo this. Thanks for the tips everyone!

Yeah, I have had a few people come out and tell me that I’m using the wrong fluid. I confirmed with Tremec to make sure I wasn’t wrong haha.

Great video. Thank you.
Here are some of my own notes as I just did mine. I drained the majority of the fluid out of the temp sensor hole to avoid making a huge mess by just doing the drain plug. That seemed to help. Once all the fluid that I could get out from the temp sensor was drained I opened the rear drain plug above the brace. I got maybe another .125 quarts or so out. Not a ton but a decent bit. I wish I had measured it. I got 3.55qts out and refilled with 3.62qts of ACDelco Manual Transmission fluid. I filled until it was dripping pretty good, let it slow down dripping, and then sucked out 8oz with a syringe. Overall not a bad job. Thanks again for the video.
