Anyone have a remote tune done on there ZL1

Good morning all,

I had my ported throttle body, 2' headers (no cats) 9.10 lower pulley and tune done at a shop of buddies of an buddy's shop that mostly does Subaru's and GTR's. The car runs ok but I know it is not right. There was no one local to me that had done any of these cars when I was looking for a shop (A10 anyways). After talking to Ted at Jannetty Racing I found out the TCM must be sent in to be unlocked further more confirming the car was never fully tuned to begin with. Ted was great and spent quite a bit time with me on the phone but it is really expensive since I need 9 credits and so does he. That's $900.00 just in credits. I have heard of a few tuners on the Vette side that tuned via remote accessing your computer which would be cheaper, however one thing I know is cheaper is just usually that, cheaper. The mods are installed, I'm not going back to stock or selling the car, I just want it right and will take any advice into consideration.

If you read this far I truly appreciate it!!!
Thank you
Travis

for what you have done a trans tune is not needed.

You have minimal mods.

Lots of guys running very high HP on the factory TCM tune.

remote tunes are ok as long as you have your own wide band o2 sensor setup.

What he said. Don’t even consider a remote tune without first installing a wide band O2 sensor. You’ve already got long tube headers so installing a bung for a wide band sensor should be straight forward.

I was under the impression you had to get into the TCM to control the TM and on these A10 cars if the TM is calibrated to the power it will cut timing or dump boost to protect its self. I could be talking out of my A** too, been known to happen, LOL.

I don't see why you'd need to unlock/tune the TCM. I do believe you're correct on the TM being part of it though. As noted lots of people are running bolt ons like you are doing find on stock A8 and A10 tunes.

However if you do want it tuned, getting it to a qualified shop is a must. Since you're in Oregon, you're unfortunately really far away from any of the shops I'd list. A NorCal shop would probably be the closest to you. Maybe learn to tune yourself? LOL.

I do believe Ted and Dyno Steve are probably the best in the game at remote tuning. I think several other shops will offer it, maybe call up your favorite shops (RPM, VR, etc.) and see what they say.

Not saying thats not true, but I have not read that anywhere... Only that in HP Tuners that TM is locked. I havent read anybody say that unlocking the TCM allows those parameters to be unlocked. MOST of the guys talking about issues with TM are manual guys....guess what? No tunes available for the manual TCM....

BUT I still stand by my statement that at your power and minimal mods its not needed. TM doesnt seem to be a huge issue on the A10(like it is on the manual), although I am sure at a certain power level it can start to be an issue.

There are torque limits in the TCM as well. You can go up some, before you start bumping into them. At lower elevations this will be a problem faster than at higher elevation. At least that was the case with the A8 TCM on the SS. It appears it had about 20% torque increase before you hit the issue on them.

1/4 mile track I was at last week has a elevation of 29'

With the mods, colder weather then last year and Drag radials that I did not have last year the car ran .55 slower and was down almost 12 miles an hour on the big end.

I had to read that last sentence a few times...Your car lost .5 seconds and 12 MPH in the 1/4 mile by doing bolt ons/tune?

which means the tune is likely garbage...

NOT having a TCM tune would NOT be holding you back like that. That is not the reason for running slower times.

RIGHT!!! leaning to having Ted do it even though it cost a lot it sounds like he knows what he is doing and spends the time needed to get it right. I do have a PM into Steve see what route he would go. I will be making a decision soon. Did not void the warranty to go slower!
