a phone mount for the camaro doesn't need to make the screen constantly visible to anyone ..you dont need visual or touch access to your phone while driving in this car. That's what the big screen already on the dash and all the voice connectivity is for.
All a good phone mount for this car needs is a simple way to quickly put your phone that also connects to USB when entering your car and easily retrieving it when leaving. I'm thin so the rear center console area is usable, with some diy "pocket/inserts" out there so that your phone doesn't slide out. Fatter people would probably have a harder time twisting to reach that area. I think an ideal setup would be a new center console lid (or for diy'ers a modded lid). My idea is that on the driver side toward the rear of the lid, a slot cut out where a pocket is inserted that is specific for different phones with the USB plug mounted to the end so that inserting your phone into the slot plugs it into usb. The phone would then sit almost flush but stick out enough to be able to remove. Maybe with that functionality, the lid would be worth the 170 bucks it sells for everywhere. |

Did you use the adhesive strips? I have had no problem with the console-mount version, but I’ve also heard that some people don’t use the strips so the mount is removable, which sort of defeats its purpose. BTW, the back of the mount is an excellent place to Velcro a garage door opener if you don’t have Homelink.

Proclip is stupid overpriced imo.
I grabbed one of these of Amazon for like $15 and it works fantastic! Not in the way of anything and it never drops my phone (it's a big phone - pixel 2 XL). Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk |

Your Amazon cheapie won't work with a 6-speed manual...

That'd be a great spot for my Aim Solo. Need to see how wide the actual face is

Just an FYI - the mounting face is 2" - if any of you aim solo guys are wanting to use it for this, it's a tad too narrow. Need to get an extension plate from them as well to use the aim solo magnetic bracket.

I just drop my phone into a console pocket:
Handy, easy, and cheap. |

I just stuff my S7 beside the shifter in my M6... In my spirited DD driving it doesn't really move.

I use Android Auto and have no use for the phone while driving. Don't need to see it, need it out of my way but close at hand.......
Had some left over Naugahyde from a previous recover project. Made a phone pocket. 30 minutes and zero dollars. Last edited by PhatDawg; 01-01-2019 at 01:04 PM. |

The chrome trim around the dash cluster has a weak glue holding it to the main panel. In high heat exposure, it gets soft and the chrome begins to free float. Having a bracket clinging to that trim will make it worse over time.
On a hot day, tap your finger on the top of the chrome above the speedo (I'm sure plenty of you have done it by mistake). You'll feel the give in the chrome pulling from the shroud. |

Have the original mount by Proclip just to the right of console.
This mount works well as a mount for my Homepatrol Digital Scanner to listen to local police/sheriff on P25 and Highway Patrol. |
