Placed an order for 2SS yesterday

Hello all,


This is my first post at Camaro6. I'm still active at Camaro5 and will still hang out there since I have 11 years of 5th gen ownership experience. I look forward sharing my future 6th gen experiences with this forum. Since I'm a handy guy, I like to post howto's with detailed instructions and lots of pics.



So here's my story. I've always owned/daily drove Trans Am's and Camaro's and never had a mullet. My current ride is a 2012 Camaro 1SS M6. I bought this car new after totaling my 1994 Z28 (still miss that car). When the news broke that Camaro production would end in January 2024 I knew I had to make a move.


I reached out to a local dealer (Elkins) and the dealer that sold me the 2012 (Lucas). Both stated that they'd love to sell me a new car but didn't have allocations for a 2SS. I was lamenting this situation to a commercial electrical gear rep that I'm friendly with and he suggested trying Burlington Chevy. He knows the owner and provided his contact info. I set up an appointment with Burlington Chevy and met with the salesman yesterday. We reviewed my build and after some time I was provided with a order workbench printout and order code. I gave them a deposit and was out of there. The process was painless. The salesman did provide two interesting bits of information. The first was that they had ordered a ZL1 a year ago and still have not received the car. The other is that they do not have an allocation for my build yet but since they have a deposit they will press the factory for an allocation. So my first question is am I likely to get this car built?


My second question is there any known constraints on my build presently?


Oh, the build info would be helpful. I'm keeping it relatively simple as this will be my daily driver and intend to keep it for a while.

I have been waiting about six weeks on my 2SS order so far. Since I put it in, the dealer has received allocations for two LT1 and one 1SS. He said he expects a 2SS in the next 30 days, but I am not getting my hopes up. All you can really do is wait.

And hey, spend a little extra and get the MR suspension! You won't be disappointed!

Geoff,


I thought about the MR suspension but I tend to keep my cars for a long time. The thought of having to replace MR struts is not a pleasant one. I'd also like to have the option to replace the factory struts with KYB or Bilstein units. 1LE would be nice as well but I'm older now and want a comfier ride for a daily driver.


Hopefully you get your allocation. The waiting game is certainly no fun.

My advice would be to get on the Chevy site and do a build and price. Then do a search using the widest possible radius, which I believe is 2,000 miles, to find your build. This is how many members here, including myself, have purchased their cars. I live in NY but purchased my car from Michigan using the search feature. I was lucky that I found my exact build.

The strut brace isn't needed in the coupes but does offer some stiffness in a convertable. If you find one without that don't let that stop you from purchasing as it can always be added later. Same for the pedals.

From what I read I would be cautiously optimistic with the dealer you ordered from. Of the 7-8 dealers I reached out to in the Mid-Atlantic, none mentioned that they could pressure Chevrolet for an allocation because they have a deposit. Usual response was that they find out every Thursday what allocations they have available and that they couldn't guarantee anything of when they would get the allocation, after talking to those dealers I found one that happened to have an open allocation and that was on a Thursday. I would certainly talk to several dealerships versus just one. If you feel like sticking to the one dealer then I'd reach out to them often about allocations and if it drags out for over a month or two months then find another dealer.

All those reasons you are saying are the reason to get MR. My wife wanted me to keep my 2012, but five minutes in a 2016 MR car and she was sold. The ride is amazing. It is better than anything you can get aftermarket.

All comes down to a dealer who can get an allocation, since dealers are in the sales game they are glad to take a deposit but truth be told most have no idea when they will get an allocation. It is very hard to find the ones that do get allocations, those allocations are based on past sales volumes. In the Corvette world you can find out the top dealers, well known on the forums, not so easy in the Camaro world. The fact that they couldn't get a ZL1 in a year says something. My experience with a Cdn dealer is I could have had a ZL1 easier than a 2SS which I ordered. While waiting they were given two ZL1 allocations before my 2SS got one. They had 2 base models ordered last June that just came in February.

Now with end of production in Jan 24 I expect there may be a push from some to get in line for a Camaro before that happens, the wait may get worse.

I put in an order for a Radiant red 2SS on 4/10. Salesman contacted me and said that GM accepted the order on 4/13. The only things there’s no telling when GM will start production on it. Called the dealer to get an order number for it but waiting until the sales manager come off vacation.

I ordered a 2SS back in January I think. The order just got accepted this past week. I’m glad it got accepted. I heard they stopped taking orders for 2022’s around April of last year, so I was worried I wasn’t going to make it this year.

In August GM stopped taking orders for 2023's. The dealer called me to say they wanted to refund my deposit. I was quite bummed and didn't bother to try to have them order a 2024 model. Figuring the order process got me nowhere, I started to look at cars that were already built on the Chevy website. This went on from August until about a week ago. I found a 2SS at a dealer 20 miles from home and reached out to them. Unfortunately this car was a customer's order and was going to be purchased in a few days. The salesman mentioned things happen and if the customer ended up not buying the car he would call me back. Last Wednesday the salesman called me back and stated that the customer could not get financing for the car and it was now for sale. As crazy as it sounds, I'm actually sad for that guy. This was supposed to be his build. Well his loss is now my gain. I test drove the car yesterday in the nor'easter which turned out to be mostly rain. I wasn't sure about the body color, riptide blue or the interior color, ash gray. The dealer photos didn't do it justice. Upon seeing it in person I was blown away. Riptide blue just pops and it was a cloudy, rainy day. I can't wait to see this thing in the sun. The gray interior looks great and reminds me of my old 1988 T/A, which happened to be medium maui blue. After the 5 mile test drive the car now has 6 miles on it. I pick it up next Saturday. Congratulations. It has been a long journey and it's nice to see a happy ending. I had a similar experience when I got my ZL1. I felt bad for the guy who ordered mine and had to pass on it.
