10 quarts is approximate, check on flat level surface and fill to full on the dipstick.

10 qts. I fill it to about 8.5 on ramps then top it off when it's down and level.

Oil capacity, or more-so how much you actually need to put it can vary slightly from the manual (which states 10qts). For myself I blind fill to about 9.5qts, then I start measuring off the dipstick. The car is off stands and on level ground at this time. When it reads around the center of the cross hatches I stop filling. The dipstick has about an inch or so of "full" area to play with. Overfilling is bad news. It generally takes just about 10qts for me to get to my warm and fuzzy zone.

I got to 9.5 on mine while on ramps and then start and check for leaks, back it down and let it run for a few minutes checking gauges and for leaks. Shut it off. check tires and other assorted stuff, then check the fill level. Recheck in the morning after sitting overnight. Should be good at that point.
I don't think any one said it so many words but I'd never pour in 10qts and then check it, you're asking for an overfill that way.

Before you go putting in more than the volume specified in the OM, fill with 10 quarts, go for a ride that's long enough to warm up the oil, then let it cool and drain down for an hour.

And miracle of miracles, your oil level will be spot on. Do not make the mistake of trying to achieve a correct dipstick level before taking these steps. You will overfill that way.

First (for me) oil change, it took 10.25. Last weeks's oil change took 9.25. Both times up on a lift.

I'm going to go a bit out on a limb here and say that those that are varying off of the standard 10 quarts are doing so for one reason: They are using the dip stick DURING the fill process to check the oil level and adjusting the amount of oil based on what they're interpreting.

In reading other threads on here, it seems that there are plenty of folk that are amazed/annoyed/distraught (not entirely sure what the feeling might be) that the oil level shown on the dipstick will vary over time in between fills without understanding that A) variance in the exact measure oil on the dipstick can and does change in between fills and B) ALL THAT MATTERS is that the oil level is within the hased range on the dipstick when measured according to the instructions in the manual.

Drain the old oil fully, fill with exactly ten quarts, go drive the car and then measure the oil using the advised procedure in the manual. If you're within range, you're done.

I just changed my oil. I put in 9 1/2 quarts drove it around the block, let sit for an hour it read nothing on the dipstick. Put in a half quart and it went to half on the dipstick. Drove, Let sit for about 2 hours. Checked again still half on the dipstick. Maybe I'll put another half to make it full. I did let the old oil drain for an hour so it wasn't dripping at all.

I suggest you let it sit over night and then check it again. I always put exactly 10 quarts in and then check the next morning. Its always right at the top of the cross hatch on the dipstick. This is the slowest engine ever for all the oil to drain back into the pan.

I'll do that and let you know tomorrow. Thanks
