I'm not as well versed as most on here as far as advertising or the car corporate world. So my simplistic observations.
I've had people ask what kind of car I was driving, people tell me nice Challenger, people tell me they didn't know Camaros were still made.
Ford and Dodge apparently see value in spending advertising dollars since there are ads for Mustangs and Challengers
If I'm not mistaken, those vehicles are selling better than the Camaro, despite the Dodges being seriously old platforms. The Camaro is also a better performing car in most cases than either Ford or Dodge.

Ford and Dodge are also advertising their Pony Halo cars. I've seen recent TV ads for the GT350, and Dodge is STILL running print ads for the Demon, and it's not even in production anymore. And we've all seen the Dodge Muscle Car TV commercials. Here's a hint, Chevy geniuses: if someone is "Eating our lunch" in sales (Al Oppenheiser's very words), you may want to TRY WHAT THEY ARE DOING DIFFERENT FROM YOU. And that difference is ADVERTISING.

Only because no one else ever includes the entire quote....

“Frankly, [Mustang] have been eating our lunch. The low [transaction prices] of a four-cylinder ... that’s where the bulk of the sales are and that’s where our pricing strategy needed improvement. We plan to go head to head — and win.”

He was very specifically talking about on the low end. SS sales are fine and pretty much where they have always been expected to be. Al was discussing the lineup changes, including the addition of the 2.0T 1LE.

But aren't the low end models where the bulk of the volume is made up and thus needing the low end models to succeed to keep the top trims around?

I've tried to get this across without success.

GM does not need to advertise to anyone on this site. So anyone that comes here and says GM needs to advertise??? To whom?

For GM to make a "hot commercial" would cost probably a few million dollars. And then for all the folks that want "hot commercial" on the Super Bowl for Camaro, well that was $5,000,000 last I checked so lets just say making a commercial and 1 Super Bowl add would run GM $10,000,000. Well if GM had a WHOPPING 10% margin on a Camaro with an average ATP of $35,000 you would need to sell an additional additional 3,000 Camaros to just break even. Of course that's one example, but running multiple, regular ads on primetime TV would probably add up to even more.

Pretty sure GM knows far more than you or I do on whether that is a good business decision.

The Camaro is being actively marketed. And as I've also tried to point out there is a difference between advertising and marketing.

ummmmm NASCAR for starters.

Look at any magazine comparison.

How many events do you see Camaros? Those aren't magically appearing.

Im thinking the thought is via stuff like Motortrend and Car& Driver. But those are performance/enthusiast outlets.

The ZL1 and SS don’t really need the help... its the LT and LS cars...

GM has the ability to do some amazing commercials. I find this stunning in every aspect...the visuals, the sound, the egregious tire smoke. It's a shame they didn't put something like this together for the Camaro.
