To cam or to charge???? Opinions

Hey guys so had a plan was all set to go with a btr 220 or 225 cam and some ported heads as well as the trunnion upgrade, johnson lifters, katech oil pump, c5r chain, lmr chain guide, dod delete and have round mid 500s at the wheel. But then i have been looking at a flat black high output Intercooled tuner kit with P-1SC-1. Cant decide its a 2022 ss 1le. I daily drive it and its fun but would like more mid and top end low end is great. Would love to hear from guys that have done both if possible or those that felt the same and why you went the way you did.

While I don't personally drive a 6th gen, wife does..... just having cammed my 5th gen a little over a year ago, I wish I just went with boost. Don't get me wrong, car runs like a raped ape and sounds super mean but cost per HP. Boost wins. I picked up 51 wheel. Boost will typically up 100+ for roughly the same cost.

If your thoughts are to buy a Procharger kit and run their canned tune with stock fuel system... then I would stick with the NA plan.

Agreed.

Blower option with some fueling work and E85 is such a great combo for an LT1 street car.

Yeah E85 isnt happening in my area i wish haha. An as for fueling was just goin to leave stock and have it tuned on stock fuel system. I think what ill do is just stick with my NA plan go with the btr 220 cam, ported heads, johnson lifters, dod delete, c5r chain, lme chain guide, may go with katech oil pump (havent decided i think my 2022 is the better oil pump). Then save up for a better fuel system and do a procharger next year as the 220 is boost friendly

If you plan on doing boost later, might as well do piston/rods while it's apart for the cam.

I’ll second this statement. I had the same blower before the cam and it was fun. Custom tune is the way to go as well.

I really wanted to stay out of the engine and do just bolton work so I just boosted. Needless to say I'm highly staisfied even though I do have the "what if" in the back of my mind. I had a goal in mind and I've surpassed it already with the build the way it is.

I may build someday but as the saying goes if it aint broke don't fix it. LoL

NA or boost, that will depends on goals/expectations. Also ask a reputable builder/tuner and be honest with what your goals/expectations are. I hold a heavy bias, but ill advocate for Katech all day everyday. Id like to think that heavy bias is a general consensus across many people on the forum.

If going both cam and boost, definitely do pistons with the right ring gap while youre in there. The labor rates on these LT engines can get pretty pricey, so it will come out cheaper to do it all at once vs going back in there a second time to take it all apart. Also do pistons and ross for the reliability. With the higher compression and ring gaps, LTs dont like too much boost.
