What convinced you to ditch the GT350 if you don't mind me asking? for me probably the biggest things that swayed me toward the ZL1 was the lack of low end torque, and the engine/oil consumption issues.
I originally went with the GT350 for the NA 5.2 and I will die on the hill that it’s the best sounding engine. I thankfully never had any oil issues. In fact the Mustang has been rock solid. The main thing is the low end torque. It has none. It’s a fun car when you can wind it out. A V8 Vtec, but I missed the raw power. I also felt / feel guilty driving the Shelby and putting miles on it if you can believe that. I can’t really explain it. I was looking into doing the FATHOUSE 800R mods but I feel like I shouldn’t, just get a GT500. But the 500 isn’t manual. Whole lot of nonsense lol

I do have aspirations for track use and I’m well aware the ZLE belongs there. I only tracked the 350 once in its 3700 miles and it was great, but I came away looking at the ZL1s with envy.

When i was considering the gt350, I wanted to whipple it. I had an 03 whippled cobra.. I live in ca though, and the whipple kit isnt carb compliant yet, who know if it ever will be. I figured i could much more easily do under the radar mods on the zl1 than the gt350. although the hp potential isnt a huge deciding factor.

good luck with the purchase and drive home!

I am beyond excited, and can't wait. I see there is a handy check list for NEW ZL1 delivery, but is there anything I should check out for a used 1LE? I believe it still has the stock tires on it, so will be giving them a look to make sure they aren't over inflated ( or under ) for the journey back home.
Congratulations on the purchase! Look forward to hearing your thoughts on the car after you’ve arrived back home. Good luck!

Pack light and definitely drive down solo if you're planning to bring the oem tires home with you. They will take up all of the front and rear seat room. You can't fit 'em in the trunk due to the small opening.

PRECISELY why I just sold my 350. The torque. And i agree 100% there is nothing like that voodoo. I did the resonator delete and it was absolutely intoxicating. Quoted out a procharger build and it was around 13k. Decided to just go Zl1 since it had been my #2 choice for a long time. Couldnt be happier but ill miss that exhaust note.

Made the same switch back in January for all of the exact same reasons. You wont regret it. I'd definitely change out the tires if still stock and maybe add some sort of temporary rock chip protection. You're brave for taking that thing on a 600 mile trip.

Finally back home!

Lots of thoughts to share. My wife and I drove the GT350 down and the ZLE back home.
Will post pictures soon and more detailed thoughts as well.

Main take away. The ZLE is absolutely unequivocally amazing. It’s everything I’ve been looking for and I cannot wait to drive it more, even after 9 hours and 600+ miles I want to get right back in.

Post up a pic or it didn’t happen! Need at minimum partial PPF on the car. Also get some rock guards if they aren’t on it already. I must admit the GT350/350Rs look and sound great but the HP of the ZL1 is a whole other level. Enjoy and congrats!!

Congrats! Love the road trip right off the bat. I live in the Indianapolis, IN area and I picked mine up from a dealer in Alabama. Driving her home was really fun and not nearly the torture rack ride folks said it would be haha.
