Service Rear Axle?

Hey everyone took the car out this morning and got a notification on the dash that said "service rear axle", car only has 4,000 miles on it and it seems to be running fine. I clicked "dismiss" turned the car off went inside the house for a few minutes came back out and it didn't come back up when I started it again. Is it a fluke? or should I be concerned about something? Thanks for any help!

Yes a fluke.

A momentary low voltage condition can trigger a service rear axle notice, among other things. The computers in our cars really don't like low voltage at all, and can/will throw errors even when there is actually nothing wrong.

If you don't have a CEL, don't worry about it.

Change It
It’s probably low.
Don’t trust factory line workers
FYI use AC Delco

Change the axle?! I already changed out the fluid a couple of months ago and today is my first issue. Hopefully it is just a fluke, will keep my eye on it.

Typical reasons to see this are funky battery voltage and sometimes it will pop up when you have misfires (causing a flashing CEL). If you didn't have flashing CEL, just ignore and move on with life.

Plug a code scanner and check for pending codes. If there is a p050d or p0300/p0301 - 308 pending then it can and will set the service rear axle and or stabilitrak indicators.

No clue why those codes cause the other warnings.

As stated. Low voltage or misfire. Has happened 3 times to me over 18,500 miles. Message appeared, disappeared, poof!!! If no CEL, no worries.

I have had this happen three times. I receive that message when my car misfires. I have had the spark plugs replaced each time.

thanks for your input, i haven't received the message again, and I don't have any misfiring. Hopefully it has worked itself out, i will keep my eye out for it however.

If you have the original battery, you may want to consider replacing the battery. I received a transmission error, and an E-Diff error on my 2020... replaced the battery and has been perfect since.

Best Regards,
Dave

I posted this on another thread but I am posting it here as well. I noticed this message today. After driving the car for about an hour, I arrived at my destination. I was backing out of the parking slot shortly after putting it in D, trying to adjust the parking position of the car. I also noticed that for a couple of seconds, before the message appeared on the dash, the steering wheel was not responding very well - it felt hard to turn. I switched off the engine and then I turned it back on and the message disappeared. I drove the car for about an hour and a half with no issues. After going through several threads in this forum, it seems that this an issue related to the ZL1.

If you haven't serviced it yet you are past due. The breakin fluids need to be changed

You mean service the rear axle?

The car has only 5000 miles on it and it has been through the regular service schedule.
