Rattling noise
Hey, I started to experience a rattling noise that grows louder over time, until I get an oil change. The engine starts and is very loud and makes a rattling noise when coming closer to idle. The rattling I thought could be a defective turbo, but that was another issue. It seems to occur in the cold more than in better temps. I thought maybe not having my catch can installed was the issue, I put it in and it connects from my gas cap to my boost block for pvc evacuation (mighty mouse 1200hp wild) I had my oil change three weeks ago, and after the engine was super quiet as it was before. Now after a while the engine becomes louder on, on start especially, and I get a slight rattle. This is the Huron speed twin turbo kit I am using.
So doing an oil change does fix the issue entirely. I have done this twice and each time it goes away. I got the second change because I was doing the catch can install, had the issue with rattling, and since the pvc was not getting proper evacuation to start I did an engine flush. Previous to the flush it was a very noticeable rattle. Also, last time the oil smelt like gasoline due to no evacuation I believe. Only been driven 3k miles since the kit was installed. |

“I put it in and it connects from my gas cap to my boost block for pvc evacuation” that’s perfect!!!, I can’t understand what your problem would be?

Are you saying the might mouse wild is not evacuating? I’m lost honestly car installs aren’t my thing I’m a robotics engineer. But both the turbos and might mouse say to plug that valley port. That’s the valley port? The lower one? That’s what my install shop did anyways.

Do you have a manual transmission?

Does the sound change when you depress the clutch? Release it? Have it in gear? Driving?

It seems to react to engine use, a rev can stop the rattle. It got really bad to where it rattled more than not, fairly loudly. I’m not sure if it’s the set screw issue in the transmission, but correlation isn’t causation. It seems to have something to do with oil changes. When the rattle was bad, my engine would roar when starting.

Then, clutch is not a likely candidate. I’ve never heard of rattles associated with oil change. You might inspect turbo piping and band clamps. Aftermarket stuff can tend to create new issues you didn’t have before. There are a lot of things that can rattle; NPP exhaust valves, for instant. Exhaust contacting heat shields, the list is long. Best approach I can think of is try and narrow down location and search there for the rattle. Sometimes it will be so the obvious when you see it. Do you think it’s an internal motor rattle?
