Exclamation Burnt intake valve... 2019 1LE

Car has 13,xxx miles.

Was experiencing some issues with the 1LE...

Rough idle, check engine light, forcing me out of active rev match...

‘Service rear axle/stabilitrack’ kept popping up, along with the other issues mentioned above.

Dealership initially thought it was due to bad injectors, and replaced a few of those, and cleaned the spark plugs.

Issues resurfaced the next day.

Stopped by the shop today to get an update, and was told that my intake valve was burnt.

How common is this issue, and what would cause this?

Was the fuel injector replaced on the same cylinder as the burnt valve?

Unless I’m lot seeing something....That intake valve isn’t burnt. It isn’t closing due to carbon buildup.

I can’t remember offhand. I’ll check the paperwork when I get home later tonight.

It’s possible. I’m just going off the information I was told...

Yep, that is the downside to DI. That is carbon coking and if 1 intake valve has it, several others have it as well.

I didn't know LT5 had dual injection. Very cool. I wonder if the LT2 will get it as well?

I haven't heard about as many issues with it on GM's as brands like BMW and Ford, but it is an 8issue associated with DI motors.

A motor with port injection washes off the back of the intake valve. When you go DI your not washing off the back of the valves. Dual injection uses both direct and port injection. You get the benefits of both and they cancel out each others negatives. I believe Toyota came up with the idea. Ford seems to have seen the most success or benefits from it. Motors like the pre-17 Ecoboost V6's and a few other DI Fords had back carbon buildup issues. When Ford came out with the GEN3 Coyote for the 2018 model year they went straight from port injection to dual injection to combat the issue before it became one.

I know on the LT5 the dual injection kicks in at WOT, or near it. The reasoning was getting enough fuel for the larger S/C.

As far as the valve, maybe the valve itself was faulty. The other thing I can think of is if the valve seat is off, or if there is an issue with the manifold seal on that cylinder causing unmetered air in the chamber, making that cylinder run lean?

What fuel are you using? Thats way too much buildup for 13K miles.

I wonder if you could spray some SeaFoam or something similar into the intake track every so often to clean the valves? Get the motor up to temperture and spray into the TB or something.

With these modern, higher-compression cars with sensitive electronics is SeaForm would be good to use on them or not? Still it would just be like spraying some very high octane into the cylinder so I don't see where it could really hurt the car.

That's not really excessive on these motors. Here's mine at 16k
