I have never heard of a GM product or Ford product with a known issue that has caused more deaths than these crashes have with Toyota's and the place mat getting stuck issue. It is a shame how long they've known of the problem and did nothing to correct it.

My 1998 Ford Mustang passed the 300K mark before I gave it to my dad and its still running strong..

wow love statements based on prejudice against american cars. axe talking about you.

my wife has a toyota FJ 2008 TRD edition (30ish k on the odo). that thing has spent more time in the shop then my 07 silverado with almost 50k on odo. and we don't even off road it like it was "designed to do."

point being you are making statements that are totaly false and defending a company that has known of this issue and done nothing. becareful of the ground you walk on it's shaking.

Obviously if you don't know of anyone then it's impossible. They flocked to them mostly because they were cheap and fuel efficient.

Hmm. You must not get out much. I know many a soul with a GM badge (and FOrd, and Dodge) on the front and 500k Kms on the dash. Not so many with a jap vehicle.

Heck, both mine and my dad's old Caprice's have 320k + kms on them!

I know a salesman that would buy full size front-drive Buicks (80s vintage) with about a 100k on them, then drive them upwards of 300k, then finally sell. His point was instead of buying new, get one with 100k fairly cheap, then add another 200k of miles. I thought that was smart thinking. That 3800 V6 engine is bulletproof. Sorry, "axe", you are misinformed.

Pushing 170k on my 95 Impala SS and haven't had a single mechanical issue thus far, and I don't play nice on it either.

Over 200K on my '02 Silverado 4x4. I offroad it and pull trees with it and it runs just a good as it did new. Doesn't use oil, and loads of American V8 power. 18MPG highway too! Not bad for a 6300lb pickup!

I know you said 300k but my dad's '02 (I think that's the year) Yukon XL has 283k. I have no reason to believe that it won't hit 300k before the end of 2010, probably more like Q1 2010.

ALL of my grandfathers GM products have earned 300,000miles or more. Two Exceptions was his first El Camino that was totaled by a drunk driver. My grandfather walked away from that crash with NO injuries. The next is his current SSR that he is going to trade in for a silverado due to the use in his shopping centers. He said he will never own anything but GM products.

My Dad bought his first new car in 1988 a Buick LeSabre, he rode it 325k and when he sold it, it was still running good, it had the 3800 v-6. Never had the trans fluid changed, never had the exhaust replaced. Only repair was a timing chain tensioner at 150k. Last summer he sold his 96 Silverado with 240k on it and bought a new Silverado.

I saw 1988 Chevy fullsize pick-up at the local Chevy store a few months back that had 495k on it. It was a trade in and running strong. It was beat to death.

Way late, or way early.
My friends father has a Malibu/Chevelle that is about to cross over 1 million.
We are trying to convince him to let GM know, as any press like this is good press.

He is a very private person though. He also didn't own it for the full million either, not sure if that makes a differance or not. This is in PA btw, not some dry west coast state where cars will run forever if given proper maitenance.

Its also cool to trash ANYTHING that deserves it, regardless if your fat or hairy. Toyota's quality isn't what it used to be, and I'm glad people are finally calling them on it. People did it to GM in the 80's, and people are doing it now. Its not like we are some chique, uber, sooper seekrit club. Had Toyota faithful bashed them when the quality started slipping instead of drinking the Kool-Aid, their cars might not be that shitty in the first place.
