When I brought my California cars up to Oregon, I had to go to the DEQ to have them emission checked. I had a modified 5.0 but it did still have cats post headers. All they did then was plug into the port and read codes, did a sniff test. No underhood inspection. That was in 2001 though.

Might want to ask in the Pacific Northwest subforum on here or over on Camaro5.

I live 30+ miles outside of Portland, up HWY30, to the NW, and we don't have DEQ. Now, Scappoose, which is 10+ miles closer to Portland, and in the same county as me (Columbia), does have a DEQ facility, however I don't think I've ever seen it open.

Point being- maybe consider living a bit out of Multnomah or Washington County.
Multnomah- Portland area
Washington- Hillsboro- might have parts of Beaverton

Drive times are pretty reasonable this far out. I'd say I'm at near 35-40 minutes in moderate to heavy traffic on HWY30 into downtown Portland during morning rush (0600-0745 AM). By comparison, if you are on the east side of Portland (I-84) or south west (I-26) you will still be waiting 30-45 minutes even though you are only 5-7 miles out of downtown for that same time frame; provided no wrecks.

It depends on what part of Oregon, not all counties have DEQ testing

I live in Washington County and DEQ is required. No under the hood inspection. They read codes and I am hoping if the Cats are in place, it will be fine.

I live in Scappoose 15 miles out of Portland. We have to go through DEQ and the regulations are the same anywhere in Oregon where DEQ is required. I sold my C6 Corvette after ordering my ZL1. The Vette last went DEQ May of 2016. Vette had CAI, Long tube headers, High flow cats, Borla Attak exhaust, Fast intake, MSD coils, Dyno tune and more. Passed DEQ with flying colors.

PS: The Scappoose DEQ is open only on Saturdays tell 2pm. Never a line.

Im waiting on my ATAK to come down , I ended up keeping the secondary cat with xpipe, i kind of wanted to put headers on while a wait for the atak, but don't want to if I won't pass ? I read somewhere they don't inspect cars that are new? but if its an outside state for new registration?

Yeah I lived in Portland for 6 years I'm only considering it because we are having a new baby and my wife has much more support up there versus if I go back to the bay area to finish grad school she is kind of on an island.... SoCal would be my first choice but have to finish up this grad school before I can come back

so how miserable is it having a fast car in oregon? is it worthless even in spring? I can't wait to hit the mountain down to california though I love that drive!

Depends on the county here in Oregon. I live in Linn county and they have no DEQ at all. You could run straight pipes and nobody would care.
