PSA: For those who are/who want to run 18's on ZL1 1LE

I've been meaning to post this for months, as I have seen random posts over the last year about clearance with 18" track wheels on the ZLE. Just to give you guys an idea on clearance and how tight it really is, see the below pictures.

Must of what you see is melted rubber clag that was caught between the caliper and the wheel. It looks as if something else was caught, likely a rock or a pebble, which caused the circumferential scrape on the wheel.

I will continue to run 18's periodically depending on my tire need despite the tight clearance. So far, I have yet to encouncter a major issue.

This post is mainly just for informational purposes!

I can back up Sean's comment. I've observed the same thing with my 18" Forgeline GS1Rs on my ZLE. They are awesome wheels. I have about 3mm of clearance between the caliper and barrel, so if any marbles or rocks get in there they can do what Sean is showing. I've not run these wheels as much as Sean has, but I am sure mine will end up like his..

Do tou guys feel for an autocross when the 18’s would be a bad idea, 16 runs a weekend and clean afterwards?
They don’t have a lot of 19” tires that are wider than 305/315 if you’re lucky

I think the issue with this clearance is the marbles that get caught. I'd imagine there are not many marbles at autocross?

pushing the limit .. love it ... good info for folks .. probably worth checking individual wheels as I imagine some have slight variations and may not wanna destroy a set of wheels that run just a hair smaller on the internal diameter ... crazy..
