GM Reports Third-Quarter Deliveries
General Motors

October 2, 2019

DETROIT — General Motors Co. (NYSE: GM) dealerships delivered 738,638 vehicles in the United States in the third quarter of 2019, an increase of 6.3 percent compared to the third quarter of 2018. GM’s fleet mix of total sales was 19.5 percent, down 3 tenths of a percent, year over year. End of September inventory was 759,633 units.

It was a pretty solid quarter so I'm guessing GM doesn't feel the need to spin or defend their results.

And since Ford and FCA now also report quarterly...

FCA: 565,034 Units Sold, Up 0%

The stated reason was that month to month 'noise' gave an inaccurate picture of sales vs a year prior. Plus, quarterly sales are the norm for most other industries.

If you like transparency, you would have loved it when the Detroit automakers did tri-monthly sales reports. Every 10 days they'd share their sales data. They apparently ended that 30 years ago, or so I've heard.


Don't have a clue why they ever did that in the first place though.
