LT5 vs LT1 TB for FBO?
Hi folks,
I just pulled the trigger on Kooks LTH with cats, lethal garage flex fuel, MSD wires, and my car currently has ported lt2 IM, rotofab CAI, and corsa catback. My question is if I should also get a LT5 TB or just stay with the stock one? Idk if it’s worth to spend like total 400$ for maybe 5hp gain?

Mainly do that for the long tube headers and flex fuel, I’m pretty satisfied with what I have on my car now if I wanna be “stock”

The LT5 TB is an OEM component and much more “stock” appearing than a set of headers lol…

“Stock” means ill keep my powertrain warranty and don’t get a tune.

How do you expect to run E? Correct me if im wrong but doesn't that require parameters to be set/turned on in HP Tuners after the install of the flex fuel sensor?

Sorry to confuse you lol, I would def. Red a tune to run E85, I was just saying that my lt2, CAI, and catback exhaust don’t require a tune so I’m not just spending money for a FBO HP, just keep adding on things but not sure if TB”investment” is worth it.

Headers require a tune and so does the E85. And even if you reflash the “stock” tune back in it, the dealer will know by the flash count that doesn’t match. It’s been repeated many times on this forum, but once again if you need the warranty then do not modify the car. Period. If you want a fast car you’ll need to lose the warranty and accept that situation. If you’re running parts that don’t need a tune, then you can rest assured they are adding no power since the ECM will simply pull timing or close the throttle body to compensate…

I am a little confused here. The LT5 TB isn't $400, its like $200.
Also its crazy that you would spend thousands of dollars on headers for like 15 horsepower, but think a few hundred for another 5 isn't worth it. Not to mention increased throttle response. The LT5 pairs very well with a ported LT2, on top of being even more bang for your buck with full bolt ons. Its inexpensive, easy to install, and well worth it. You DO need a tune and you will lose your warranty with this, I just want to make sure you actually understand that.

So if I'm understanding correctly, after the headers and flex fuel kit you would get a tune. You just arnt sure if the 95mm TB is worth the upgrade.
On my wife's 22 1LE, I'll be pulling the trigger on the 95mm TB when I upgrade the IM to the GPI ported LT2.

My point is… i want to get a tune but I don’t have to if that makes sense… I’m cool with the a few mods I have on my car now. I got a good deal for this Kooks LTH, so I feel it’s the moment for me to tune the car and flex fuel would be a good idea since I’m tuning. I have paid for the mods I have now, but not sure if I should keep buying more parts, like the TB… sorry to confuse everyone here LOL

I would still suggest the LT5, especially since it will be the cheapest mod yet. With the other mods and a tune it should be worth at least 5hp/tq and a bit more in the upper end, PLUS better throttle response. Arguably its more effective than the Rotofab which cost more money as well. Its just not often you see a person go full bolt on, especially on the higher end of cost with Kooks w/ green cats and Corsa exhaust, but then question if they should do the cheapest bolt on there is. The answer is YES, you should.
