Car won’t start or jumpstart

It’s been about 5 days since driving and this morning the car was dead. Couldn’t find any sources of electrical drain/discharge. I put a 10amp battery charger on it overnight and still could not car to car jump it either through the remote terminals under the hood or directly through the battery terminals. Just 3 clicks each time and then dark/dead. Ended up requiring a tow truck to come to the house and take it to the dealer for warranty covered inspection.

I have purchased a battery tender jr to help ensure the battery stays tip top in between drives for after I get a new one. My only guess is that the new LED reverse lights might be drawing a tiny amount of power? I put a 1/4amp resistor on the plug end of the bulbs as was suggested in another thread, but is it possible one of them came loose and the bulbs started ghosting and pulling power? Just trying to figure out how to avoid this again! Car is only about 9mo old with 3100mi

Bad starter? Maybe.
I know that’s been a problem for some people. I had the same thing and it was a starter. You should have your dealer check it out.

If you tried jumping off a running car with a good battery and it didn't start I would say it's either the starter or something in the electrical path to the starter. Both somewhat unlikely problems on a relatively new car.
I don't get the "3 clicks then dead" business when jumping off a good battery. Be nice to know whether they were relay or solenoid clicks (they sound different).
Let us know what the dealer finds.

What did you try jumpstarting it with?

Unplug the battery for about 5 minutes, then hook it back up and jump it again. I had the same problem once before.

Thanks for the input guys. I tried jumping it with our Honda Odyssey that has a 3mo old battery and tried with the tow truck when it arrived as well. Removed the battery and reinstalled after an hour: same result, 3 clicks and dead. Will post results when the dealer finally gets it fixed

If your AGM battery is TOTALLY dead , and or a cell is short, it won't take a charge. The battery needs to be equalized first. Which means hooking it to another fresh battery that is fully charged and let them equalize so that each has 9 or 10 volts in it, usually for several hours. Then the battery charger will work.

Is there a trick to be able to get to the battery quick? That little panel only lets me see the negative/neutral, but not the positive terminal.

Baron95: For a jump or just to hook up a tender you can use the remote hot terminallocated under th hood on the passenger side.

Resolution: The dealer ended up replacing the original battery with a new one and all is well. I’ll be keeping the car on a tender now just to be extra safe in between drives. Never had a scenario like this where it wouldn’t take a jump-especially on such a new car!!

My 2017 1SS has been getting started every 4 weeks , with zero issues...since December. Due to get warmed up and driven up and down the drive a bit tomorrow. NO battery tender and it has been starting just fine. And usually in fairly cold weather too.

Maybe I've been lucky?

Frank-that seems perfectly normal. I just added the tender out of paranoia and in an attempt to make sure I don’t have to experience this again for a while

Thank you for that info - I was not aware of that (had the car only for 10 days - and it is been raining and snowing almost ever since).

So the hot terminal is connected by thick enough wires for a jump?
