Pilot Sport Cup 2 sizes for ZLE

This may have already been reported in another thread, but just in case I wanted to post my findings on the PSC2 for ZLE...

I was able to buy PSC2s for 1/2 price so I decided to try them, I'll say right now they don't work as well on the ZLE as the GYF1SC 3Rs, but everyone knows that. PSC2s are perfect for GT3/GT3RS, but the weight of the ZL1 makes a big difference.

That being said, PSC2s last longer than GYF1SC 3Rs. And PSC2 is ok in wet vs 3Rs which are deadly.

So if you get a good price and buy some PSC2 for ZLE do NOT buy them in 305/30/19-F 325/30/19-R. These sizes are much smaller than the same specs for GYF1SC 3R.

The correct sized PSC2s for ZLE are 315/30/19-F, 345/30/19-R. I measured them and these sizes seem to be identical in widths to the 305/325 GYF1SC 3R. Also, I ran 315/345 PSC2 this weekend at ACS Roval in Fontana CA and if there were any rubbing issues they would have surfaced in banked turn 1-2 at 130+ MPH--zero rubbing, they fit perfect.

My overall impression is PSC2 in 315/345 is definitely capable of sub 1:50 at ACS, I did a 1:50 and I was holding back while still learning this car.

Yesterday I swapped the 3 day worn 315 fronts for some sticker new 305s, and there was less grip. So again, if possible only use 315/345 in PSC2.

Michelin's performance tires are known to be on the softer side when it comes to sidewalls. Like you said, the GT3's of the world that are 31xx-3200xx Lbs, that is fine, but not on a 38xx lb car.

Goodyears have always had stiffer sidewalls , which is one thing I LOVE about them. Even going back to the original SuperCar tires that came on the C5 Z06, they provide crisp initial turn-in and a sharpness to them that I have yet to experience from any Michelin tire.

It was a deal a about 6 months ago from an ebay seller Priority Tire, for 2 year old tires. I could only find 305 and 315. That deal is gone, but if you look on ebay there are often new discounts on PSC2, unfortunately they are never for 325 or 345.

I bought my 345s full price with heat cycling from Tire Rack.

Also, lots of ebay sellers that are selling PSC2s for a lot more than Tire Rack, and the ebay sellers sometimes add shipping--TR shipping is free. This must only work for people who have never heard of Tire Rack or don't know how to use Google.

Here's a an example:

Thanks for the reply. I’m looking for new tires for my GT350R. I’m taking the carbon fiber wheels off the car and putting on some replicas.

I don’t trust anyone in my area to take off the stock tires from the carbon fiber wheels without causing damage. I’m hunting for good deals on tires.

$600 for one tire on that eBay link is nuts !!!

Yeah you are so right to worry about the CF wheels, if the dealer does it and you take pictures each time you drop off and check immediately on pickup you might be safe.

I actually just noticed that Discount Tire Direct has the best price on these now, 345 are $472.66 and they also offer heat cycling and free shipping. I could have saved ~$100 vs. TR... $100 savings on 2 tires not 1

I bought some 315s for the front but thought I might run them on all 4 corners. Any experience with that setup?

Wanting fresh tires with deep tread for a road trip and 2 days at Laguna Seca, I could only find 305 and 315 half price on ebay. I thought 305-f/315-r would be ok, but the car definitely slid around a lot more. Then Jeff Cook got behind the wheel of my car and kicked everyone's a$$ in the red group, even while lifting for the sound booth, but sliding is not a big issue for him.

If you run 315 on all 4 you're essentially running 305 GY3R equivalent size, with less grip than the GY3R. I wouldnt recommend it, IMO you at least need 345 PSC2s in rear. Maybe get 4 315s for your fronts to get full use from the rears, they wear out 2x as fast as rears--in my experience this is true with all tires on ZLE including GY3Rs.

I saw your post about dangers of cold 3Rs, another nice thing about PSC2 is they are much better cold on the street and heat up faster on track. But for time-attack in ZLE, new 3Rs beat new PSC2.

I just finished track day at ACS with Cup2 N0 spec. Awful tire for our cars with a lot of fall off through out the session. The fall off makes for fun photo ops with sliding, but frustrates you if you are trying to go for PBs.

I will send off my Cup2s with a big smokey burnout and never use them again.

Goodyear did a great job with creating the F1 SC3 and SC3R's for the ZLE and SS 1LE / ZL1. They made the tire specifically for the car.

Capitalize!!!!

Im aware. Ive burned up 3 sets. My problem now is the horsepower. Even really pedaling the car on track and with the GY at full temp they cant hold the power at all. spinning at 120 etc.

Im now on a constant search for the best tire for my setup which will likely be a scrub or take off Pirelli

Yep, the double edge sword of adding more power. Tire technology will only get you so far before AWD is needed

I was at ACS Sat/Sun, what group did you run in? I saw a lot of ZLEs Sunday.

Also, what size Cup2 did you run?

I was the loud White/Black ZLE on Sunday in Black. I normally run Green but this was a shakedown for my build as it had never been pushed that hard so I stepped down a group. Turns out I could have been near the top in green anyway even though I was sliding everywhere.

I was running the 305 325 stagger. I see some discussion about them measuring small but compared to my GYSC3R and my R888R on my HREs which I brought to the track as well, they seemed about the same.
