Went Drag Racing the Other Day

Wanted to see if any other 1LE guys wanted to share their experiences or knowledge on drag racing our cars. Yesterday was the first time I took my 1LE to the strip since purchasing it last October. Had a decent enough experience. I know I can get more out it but I need to get more acclimated with the car.

- 13.7 w/launch control Track Mode/Race
-13.42 w/out launch control Sport Competitive Mode
-13.46 w/out launch control Sport Competitive Mode
- 13.65 w/out launch control Track/Race Mode
- Terrible launch guy next to me jumped the tree and through me off.
- 13.68 w/out launch control Track/Race Mode

- The final run was very weird. I feathered the clutch like in Sport Competitive and progressively got on the throttle then boom the computer came down like a hammer and cut me off at the jump. Any thoughts on this? My best runs seemed to come from Sport Competitive.

-Also, as a final note on my best run fuel cut off kicked in like 5900-6100 rpm in first anyone else experience this? The rest of the night I shifted out of first at 5500. The rest of gears flew to 6600 no problem. Car only has 900 miles could this be why?

what was your mph
were you spinning badly on all of the launches
are you located in high altitude...

I get the cutoff in track mode sometimes... too intrusive I like competitive mode better

So I have the same engine as you in my 5500lb pickup truck. Well mine is down 40hp but I have a tune so lets say I'm only down 10hp.

I ran a 13.9 my first and only pass at an actual drag strip, DA was like 100 @ atco

those are some really bad times!

The et is more about traction and skill but mph will give you an idea of the power the car is making, what was your mph has already been asked.
The lt1 makes its power at 6000rpm so if you’re having to short shift in first then that’s already slowing you down .

I have a 2SS and not a 1LE, but I ran 12.1 bone stock. So I’m assuming once you get your launch and shifting down pat, you should be within spitting distance of my time.

I have a 2018 1LE with LT's, Exhaust, Tune (Pray) and Cold Air. No dyno time. I heat the tires pretty good to have any hope of traction. Traction and Stability off, track mode. Looking back at PDR I launch around 5000rpm, shift just past 6000 and in Orlando it ran 11.97 @ 117 in May with warm weather but 1.80 60'. It ran 11.12 @ 117.49 mph in Cecil, Georgia 2 weekends ago with same weather, but the best I could get 60' was 1.94.

FWIW, with 61% Alcohol (E85) it ran 118.54 mph in Cecil, but I couldn't get a good launch so it was a 12.30 pass.

Otherwise, it runs 12.20s to 12.40s with 2.0-2.20 60'.

It takes a pretty hard slippage of clutch to get it just right.

Hope this helps.

Times certainly vary even for a stock car.

I turned everything off on my stock 1LE and struggled to get a 12.8 @ 112 mph. My 60 foot was 2.05. I'd hope I could get the launch down to a 1.9...but not that night.

I've had no engine cut out issues. You mph will tell you if you have a HP problem.

I ran a 12.7 at 113. Last summer. I turned off all nannies and dropped from 13.1 to 12.7. The tcs system didnt like hard launches and constantly killed any decent launch. I think its designed to let the rear tires slip a little on a less grippy surface. Because the traction is so good on a drag strip it doesn’t see any slip and protects the drivetrain. I slipped the clutch a little and left the line at about 3k rpm. My reaction times were garbage though. LOL!!

Edit:also no lift shift is your friend!!

My 13.42 was @104mph. I was spinning moderately badly wasn’t very bad but I also wasn’t getting the jump I wanted. I agree it was weird competitive felt less intrusive then track/race which I though race was suppose to have all nannies off.

Yeah I agree it’ll get better. Haha I don’t know if I’ll get close to you but it was my first time ever racing it. I only have 850 miles on the car so I’m still getting used it. Very different from my Challenger.

Damn that’s great times. So you launch at 5k? Do you have drag radials or the stock Eagles?

My mph I believe was 104. The cut off I have no idea what was happening it was in track race mode in first only.

I’m sure there’s a Silverado forum somewhere where this would be relevant.

If the car is spinning like crazy it will effect both ET and MPH. Looking at finish line MPH is more meaningful once you start launching the car and shifting better.

Make no mistake, launching an M6 SS1LE well takes a lot of practice and proper setup. Comparing a8 times to your car is meaningless.
