My Camaro is a Time Machine
I walked to my Camaro this morning and did a quick walk around to check it out. I smiled as I opened the door and saw the three pedals and the stick shift, up and to the right, tucked into reverse. Sitting behind the wheel, I closed the door and put the key into the ignition. I pressed the clutch and shifted into neutral. As I twisted the key the gauges swept to 100%, the engine sparked to life, and a quiet rumble filled the cabin. Slowly I released the clutch. I opened the driver's window wide. Checked the mirrors, slipped her into first and rolled off the clutch.
I didn't think about my hands or feet, they just moved as they should to steer me out to the main drag. The soreness in my shoulder that I woke with was gone. The sun was shining and the streets were empty. I stopped at the sign for the main street and there wasn't a vehicle in sight. Temperature was up in the engine. I slipped her into first, eased off the clutch as I turned right, and just before I straightened out I smacked the throttle to the floor to put some heat into the tires, and that worked. She skipped left, right, left, and before I knew it I was shifting into 4th, already exceeding the limit, but just by a bit. I put my elbow out the window and glanced at the clock on the radio. I had gone back in time exactly one hour! WTH? Mr. Fusion from E-Bay was still on back-order. Oops, DST, duh. I have had my Camaro for eight years as of today, and the magic still hasn't faded.

Its funny that you posted this.
I opened my barn door yesterday to retrieve some tools, and in the left hand corner sat my Camaro, just ready to wake from her slumber. As I looked at her she put this huge smile on my face..... its funny how no other car has done this to me Anywho, I had to shut her back in the cold dark garage because I wasn't ready to bring her out, but after reading your story today, I think I might get her ready next week.

Amen brother!
It is a thrill every time I get behind the wheel of my SS too. The exhaust note, the throttle response, shifting through the gears, the raw power... and best of all, it feels so nimble with my suspension mods... go cart-ish is not an overstatement lol... all just a joy to drive. For almost a decade now too this car has been my pride and joy. I try to get out early on the weekends... with no traffic around, just the roads to myself. Heavenly, peaceful... |

Ok, going to admit it now...I talk to my car. For real. Full on conversations, well, one-sides mostly. I tell her the nice things I'm going to buy her, I thank her for treating me so well and keeping me safe, and I tell her regularly how much she means to me.
I swear my car and I have a connection that I have never felt towards any other car, not even my 1995 TA. Now I have to make sure that my girlfriend NEVER sees this post.

Great 60 - 70 temps in Florida this time of year require both windows down when driving.....to hear the exhaust! I keep telling myself to start listening to music in the car again. “How will I survive with no CD player?” So I turn the radio on, flip through the channels. However, I find the music is a distraction to listening to the great sounds,.....the 6.2L growl, low rpm shifts, high rpm shifts, decel, pops, burbles, cruising, random clutch-in throttle rev. After 5 minutes the radio is back off. Car-to-driver - “I’ve got your #1 hit right here - out the back!” Music enough for sure!

I know what you mean. 71 outside the car / 17 behind the wheel every time! Talk about a time machine in addition to a hurst shifter I've got MP3 reverb version tunes on my ipod playing thru Mylink ...it's the 60s all over again Also notice the redline tires
ps - booked hotel today for lawn showing of Woodstock film for Woodstock50 at Bethel Art Center. I missed the first one doing basic training at Ft Dix |

Love it!! You put it so well......when I am uptight about something, I just hop right into my ragtop and take a cruise.....something about the gear jamming and the beautiful music from the NPP exhaust as it runs thru the gears is very soothing to my soul.
In no time, I feel good again.....the permagrin returns.

Timeless machines they are. 7 years later I still love driving and looking at the car. The 5th Gen body style will ALWAYS look good

Great Scott!
I just put on some Poison or Ratt and let it fight with my exhaust.

It will be 10 years ago this August 21 that I took delivery of my SS. I still get the same
feeling from my L99. I'm so far beyond shifting gears. I can count on one hand how many times I've used the TapShift. The same torque can be felt and my Solo exhaust can be my music even though I have XM radio. I've never got tired of this great car.
