AFM question

Is there any hp/tq to be had by removing the AFM?

Just got my Range unit 2 days ago.
My driving style, so far I haven't noted a huge decrease in mileage, guessing it's maybe .3-.4mpg less.

The response at low throttle cruise seems like it's definitely snappier and responsive.

Power wise, so far with right foot, no; I don't feel it's affecting HP/TQ.

But it doesn't sound like a farting tractor anymore, the exhaust flaps stay open all the time now--but it'll pop some when RPM's are manually controlled for the engine to run around 2k RPM.

AFM in my opinion, is a joke; a solution looking for a problem. Just makes the engine valve train more complex. (get gov't out of powertrain engineering)

No, but it should be easier on those collapsible lifters not having to go back and forth...pumped, collapsed etc...also be sure and use the oil called for by GM, ie...0-20 or what ever...

You can drive in manual shift mode and it will keep the AFM off...sticks do not have AFM activated...

Nope. It helps some, but after something like 15-20 seconds or similar, that little green V4 lights up again. Been there, done that.

The Range keeps it off.

afm never kicks in when you care about hp and torque regardless of what mode you're in.

It does... however; Entering into manual ALONE will not keep AFM off. You have to downshift (not upshift). After you downshift just once, AFM will stay off for the remaining duration you're in manual mode.

Thanks for all the answers. I think I need a Range or Diablo.

If I was out of warranty, I would really look at or at least consider a street tune for the engine and trans. Couple of good tuners on this forum. Blackbear and Janitty Racing come to mind.

2018, 2ss Camaro. When I have AFM disabled, the car seems to me to be more responsive and faster. I have fuse 51 pulled and I noticed more decel pops. Gas mileage is a little lower as well, but who cares

Something else about the use of the Range.

I pulled the plugs on the forward exhaust valves, and get some better sound (noise?) from the car.
But it throws up a CEL, routed through the fuel pump control module.
I found if I have the range ready to plug in just after pressing the start and the engine fires up, the CEL doesn't come on.

Too bad they don't put a switch on the thing.

You can find an ODB II extension cable on Amazon that has an inline switch. However, the latest version of the Range software apparently doesn't drain the battery. They will update it for the cost of the shipping.

What happen to the AFM valves if I use the Range? Is the valve open? Half open or closed?

With the Range plugged in, the AFM valves stay open all the time.

thank you. That mean if I use the range and pull fuse #51 the sound should be slightly better
