Third brake light flash from factory?

My car seems to have the third brake light flash whenever the brake pedal is pressed, I know early 6th gen did not have this and there are aftermarket kits to do this but to my knowledge it is not installed on my car. Looking at some videos I see only newer models seem to have it, I’m trying to see if anyone knows if it was a change from factory after a certain model year or maybe it is aftermarket and I didn’t know that previous owner installed it.

I’ve seen some other newer Chevy cars come with the third brake flash brand new is my only claim, would be nice to now for certain

It comes from the factory that way. Before I took delivery of mine I specifically asked my salesman not to install any after market stuff on my car. He replied, we do not do any after market unless requested.

Interesting, so it must be a change from at least 2022+

I couldn’t find any good videos of any 2019-2021 cars with someone pressing the brakes and showing the third brake light. I’d have thought if it was changed they’d do it in 2019 along with all the other changes. I’ll keep looking, hopefully it’s not a trim specific ‘feature’ otherwise it’ll be a fun time figuring out which trims get it lol

That narrows it down a little then, I know it’s at least 2022+ but now we know it wasn’t in 2019

So they added it in one of three years (2020, 2021, 2022)

Just went out in the garage and confirmed that my '21 3LT does not flash like that.

While I am using the stock center brake light, I am using the 2016-2018 taillights, so we should wait on confirmation from someone with the stock refresh taillights before deciding on whether or not 2021 models are similarly "flashy."

https://www.nhtsa.gov/interpretation...t%20to%20flash. It seems to be illegal to have the brake light flash.

It's usually installed by the dealer and they charge a stupid amount for it. My Fusion has one. Whatever 'discount' you get off MSRP, they make back with the preloaded stuff like this.

I hate these with a passion, and yes, they're technically illegal, so there is no way GM would've added a flashing 3rd brake light to any model year. Whoever has this must have received a dealership extra or some third party installed it.

There is very good reason flashing lights are limited to special vehicles: they represent the ultimate attention grabber, and if that command of attention is wasted on such aftermarket nonsense with more and more vehicles, there will be nowhere left to go, and the average level of driver attention will take yet another dive.

Interesting news, I didn’t know the dealers had the ability to put them on the cars

I’ll have to check out one of those aftermarket install videos and see if my car has it then, I’m not the biggest fan of the flash either. Feels like more of a target then a warning with the amount of drunks on the road

It's dealer installed. Some here locally do this as an added markup for them.

https://pulseprotects.com/product-info/

Convenience, reliability and simple, elegant design are at the heart and soul of Pulse® The Safer Braking Technology and the years of engineering that have gone into its development. Your dealer simply installs the small pulse module near the third brake light and the solid state electronics do the rest. No moving parts. Nothing to wear out. Just a simple idea whose time has come.

WE HAVE YOU COVERED.
Pulse® features an exclusive 5-year, unlimited mile product replacement warranty for manufacturing defects. If the product fails for any reason, we will replace it free of charge. Also, ask your dealer if they offer Pulse®’s exclusive Limited Product Warranty that provides an additional $3,000 Total Loss Protection benefit in the unlikely event that Pulse® fails to prevent you from a total loss in a rear-end collision...

Not sure who your dealer is but they are flat out categorically wrong. The cars do NOT come from the factory like that at all, NO car does, ever has, and never will. Because it's technically illegal.

Any car you see on the road with a flashing brake lamp of any kind was installed aftermarket by the dealer or someone else.

I suggest you remove it and return your brake lamp to stock. These are technically illegal and depending on the mood of the cop behind you one day they could technically site you for it if they really wanted to, and you'd have to comply.
