GM should bring back the sport truck

since the Camaro is going to be canceled. RWD, and low.

I wish, the Syclone is still one of my favorite cars, and I love looking at the past sport trucks like the Chevy SS and Xtreme, even jumping across manufacturer lines with pre electric Ford svt lightning and further back with the Dodge's little red express. I think unfortunately the market is just not there for it at the moment, big draw in the 90s and early 2000s was that it was relatively cheap and targeted at youngsters, I feel even with lots of creature comforts cut out, manufacturer would struggle making a sporty truck with costs low enough to bring in the youth, not to say market doesn't exist, I still remember headlined about Hennessey's Mammoth not too long ago.

It looks like high and wide is what they are selling now.

GM doesn't do those things anymore. With the Camaro going away, they are just handing over the reigns of the muscle car to Ford.

It was a lazy approach then. Is sport trucks coming back a good idea now? No.

If the Typhoon had been put on a unibody diet and given a stick, the WRX thing doesn't happen.

Anymore though, everyone lifted modded truck, to them, is already the baddest thing out there.

I think the best shot at a sport "truck" may come in the form of a Maverick ST or RS. But even that's a really long shot. Being on a C2 platform variant means that if they wanted to, it could be done, but I doubt it will. Now I know that a lot of people don't exactly think of it as a truck, but a street performance oriented "Pick-up" may be the only way to get the segment up and going again. If something like that were successful then maybe it'd translate to the likes of the mid-sizers (Ranger, Colorado/Canyon, etc).

I realize the market for a sports truck is small....probably smaller than the actual pony car market which right now isn't anything to brag about. But I have always like a nicely setup, good looking sport truck.

But along those lines, I still wonder how well a Colorado with the 6.2 V8 or a powerful turbo V6 would sell. I don't see why gm couldn't physically put that engine in the Colorado (and/or Canyon). We know they can. (they considered it in the 2nd gen and actually had some test trucks running around with the 6.2 and the 10 speed, but they never gave the project the green light). Don't just make the engine available in the ZR2. Make an SS version, or even better, just make it available in one of the other trims below ZR2. They'd probably sell just as many as they do Camaro's in total. The LT1 in a mid-size truck would be amazing.

But we all know it will never happen for multiple reasons.

Funny enough, out of all the "trucks" on the market whenever I see a Hyundai Santa Cruz my first thoight is always "that would be cool if it was very fast" like is someone copied the rough profiles and stuck a V8 in it that would seem like a good compromise. This is purely in the land of dreams though, as others mentioned the industry is moving away from performance oriented ICE cars.

I remember this young building one of them in the late 90`s

His goal was to beat my 94TA WS6 Clone.

He never did
