Mild 2 Wild worth it?

I am a bit confused, I thought that the Valves stayed open when in "sport or Track" mode and didn't close. So what would be the purpose of a Mild 2 Wild switch in our ZL1s?

No they are not open all the time in sport and track.
With the mild to wild, fuse pull, or reprogramming the npp you can have them open at all times. You can hear the difference at lower cruise rpm's, and idle.

cig, I would try the fuse pull first before buying a mild to wild switch. I did the fuse pull in my ZL1 and didn’t seem to really make that much a difference in loudness so I put the fuse back in and set the exhaust mode to Track in the DIC.

Pulling the fuse didn’t make a difference at lower RPM even in Trac and Sport mode with the valves fully open?

It’s not something you can tell really good from inside the car but it does make a difference.

And you can build your own mild to wild switch if you are reasonably handy with a soldering iron.

Forgot to mention: get yourself a Range AFM delete so you won’t have the AFM valves opening and closing either. Makes a nice difference as well.

I like having the option of being able to open and close the NPP valves that I have currently on my NPP Borla S-Type catback exhaust, but wouldn’t eliminating the AFM valves delete make the M2W switch pointless? What am I missing here?

Our cars have two sets of valves. One at the muffler in back, another farther up towards the front. The front ones are controlled by AFM. The back ones are the only ones affected by a fuse pull or MtW switch.

Wow I didn’t know that. So when in “Sport or Track” modes what differentiates what each valve will do? And is there any pictures you could share on where the AFM valves are? I don’t remember seeing them under the car when I was installing my borla exhaust this past weekend.

Edit: now I’m totally confused according to some other threads here the ZL1 does NOT have AFM valves.....

Pulling the fuse makes no difference in sport or track at start, idle, or WOT. The valves are set open under these conditions.

The difference is with the NPP fuse pulled the valves will not close under any condition. With the fuse installed in Sport/Track the valves close in gears 6-10 on the A10. Sport closes a gear earlier Then track part throttle.

The AFM valves only close when entering 4cylinder mode on A10's. M6 cars do not have AFM valves and 4cyl AFM mode is disabled.

Edit* AFM is only active on the Z06. ZL1 is disabled and has no AFM valves in the exhaust.

Can anyone point out where the AFM valves are on a ZL1, my research on these forums is telling me ZL1s don’t have them..

The ZL1 exhaust does not have the AFM values. The LT4 has all the AFM hardware but it is not activated on the ZL1.

Correction. ZL1 doesn't have AFM for the A10 or M6...nor does it have the AFM valves. I was thinking of the Z06. It does still have the AFM hardware in the engine as mentioned above.

Correct. The LT4 engine in the ZL1 does not have AFM. The LT1 engine has AFM hardware but it is isn’t active on M6 cars. The M6 cars don’t have AFM valves in the exhaust.

Track Mode opens the NPP exhaust valves initially and under acceleration but I believe even in Track Mode the NPP valves eventually close with steady driving (i.e. highway driving). The M2W controller gives you the ability to override that.

No that is incorrect. The LT4 engine has AFM hardware in the engine just like the LT1 but it's not active in the ZL1 just like it's not active on the M6 SS cars.

The only NON AFM hardware equipped LT engine is the LT5.
