That’s part of the problem with having to employ the UAW. Can’t RIF them so easily, gotta pay, provide benefits and fund pension while many wait for product and factory transitions to EV. Definitely see taxpayer $’s needed to bailout 1 or both of the big 2 in Detroit in next decade. Ford and the UAW making EV batteries in Michigan will probably make those batteries some of the most expensive EV batteries in the world. Can’t lower EV costs like some competitors, when you have a workforce with unsustainable wages, benefits, underfunded underperforming pension funds.

Ultium is a union shop. GM still says their battery costs are dropping and they are already among the lowest in terms of $/kWh in the industry. GM is still on track to introduce an Equinox EV with pricing starting at $30,000. That’s less than what Bolt EV started at and is the reason Bolt EV prices have been dropping.

We're STILL waiting for all these EVs from GM while multiple competitors have their BEVs released and sold, alongside PHEVs, hybrids, and their ICE portfolio. I understand GM didn't want to hack a chassis to get BEVs out sooner, but it's not a great look.

Bolt assembled in USA with UAW labor, Equinox assembled in Mexico. That labor savings is a chunk of getting pricing so close. As battery tech and demand advances obviously price to produce will drop. But long run, a Union manufactured EV battery will cost more. We must include underfunded/underperforming pension costs that Taxpayers will ultimately be responsible for. Those costs are unknown that non-union 401k manufacturers don’t have to deal with.

GM is way behind their original schedule of their “EV onslaught”. Seems like they are copying everything about Tesla, including the no electric vehicle launched in the same timeframe that they are announced to launch. That’s actually starting to affect our next vehicle purchase planning. We’re s’posed to be in line for a Blazer EV. Timing is supposed to be second quarter 2023, with SS (our plan) available in third quarter. Thing is, since my wife’s Volt got totaled we third quarter is about the longest we can wait to get her into a replacement vehicle. But with GM’s track record of getting EVs to market on time, we’re looking at other options.

I understand your point, but keep in mind that today Equinox and Blazer ICE vehicles are already built in that same plant in Mexico. So for at least a short period of time Equinox, Equinox EV, Blazer, and Blazer EV will be built in the same plant and the two Equinox products will be similar in price. That’s a huge achievement.

That’s good to see, it was one of the reasons I didn’t buy a 2500HD about 6 months ago.

Eh, I have a feeling we'll all be paying for this soon enough on new cars, under Onstar name or something else.
