switchblade key recall fix

I finally put my key fob back to the original configuration after it was a victim of the stupid recall before i bought the car. It is super easy. Taking the key they gave you, you need to get the plastic end off. I am a single man so i just put the key in the oven and melted it off lol. After that the key will slip into the fob where it is supposed to be. Then use a 1/16"roll pin. You will see a groove in the base of the key where the roll pin goes, make sure it lines up with the holes in the holder on the key fob. tap the pin all the way through. File the edges of the roll pin flush with the holder surface& you are done. stupid GM.

I always liked the switchblade, but went with the recall on my final scheduled maint. with GM. I read some horror stories where people accidently switched their car off with the switchblade. I personally never had the problem, but my keys are solo, without anything else on the key ring.

I believe what was happening was people who are taller were bumping the key with their knees, and due to the way the key sits in the ignition it's able to be pushed to the off position easily. Thankfully I'm 5'8" so I can't reach the top shelf but at least I don't turn my camaro off while driving.

Im 5'8 also. I don't even come close with my knees. Looks like you would have to be at least 6'5 to run into problems.

I did the same thing, it was super easy. When I bought my most recent Camaro the recall was already done, so I reversed it right away.

I’m pretty sure the problem was with SHORTER people where the seat was shoved up so far their knees hit it.

I'm 6'2" so I haven't personally had an issue. I think it depends on how you sit, I have long arms so I don't sit super close to the wheel.

Same here, Im not the giraffe in the crowd, therefore I don't accidentally turn my car off while driving.

I had the key recall done. Also I wear my seatbelt and do my racing at the drag strip.

Also I'm an adult.

Unless I am missing something, what does that statement have to do with your ignition key? I too am an adult, have been one for 40 years now. I wear my seat belt, I do not street race. I just wanted my key to be factory original.

Agree 100% with you. Its my car and I will choose which key I have for it. Do I stretch the car out from time to time yes but I do it discreetly & away from busy places.

I'm only 5'6" so I'm just lucky to see over the dashboard let alone hit the key with my knee LOL.

The key recall was for SAFETY, like the other stuff I mentioned.

No...the key recall was due to Corporate Liability. If you don’t turn your car off while driving it, it’s completely safe. Before you had the recall done, how many times did you inadvertently turn your car off with your knee while you were driving?

I'm pretty sure this was a knee jerk reaction to the Cobalt fiasco more than anything. Yeah safety was a real concern for a car you can hardly see out of...
