Ported heads worth the money w/cam

Doing the 775 hp package along with the CSP/Texas Speed big boy LT4 cam. All work done by Complete Street Performance. My friends are busting my balls For not having the heads ported. Is it worth the money? Is it worth a extra $1000 to have done.

It's worth 25-30whp and makes the engine overall more efficient. Some will say just up the boost others will say make the engine more efficient and use less boost. I kind of agree with the latter.

I think its worth it. I mean nothing about these cars are cheap. Your gonna pay a pretty penny for any mods. Might as well do it now and not have to re-do everything after you get this stuff installed.
I had texas speed do my heads for my old fbody a few years ago and that thing screamed for an old LS1.

I was gonna do heads with my cam. In fact i was gonna do TSP heads, but heard there was an issue with Valve seats. Not sure if true, nor sure if it was LT1 vs LT4 heads that had the issue. For ~25hp i didnt want to take a chance and couldn't see spending $3k or more for fresh castings. I think i would get more out of injectors and a HPFP then heads when spending that kind of money.

Depends on the specs of the cam. If the cam can take advantage of the additional flow, then I would do it for sure.

To be honest these heads are pretty dam good. My Camaro had stock heads with BTR springs. It made upper 800s with stock heads.

I would port the SC and snout by Kong. When I get the cam, that is what I will do. Don't want to starve the engine of air, with the cam only.

Your saying its $1000 just for the cnc porting work or are you factoring in Inconel exhaust valves, springs, retainers, ect? If that also includes some hand blending and a valve job that's a deal I would jump all over that. If that just cnc work and no upgrades valves hard pass ect hard pass! 1000 for all that is good!

If your serious about doing that look to places like landspeed, Frankenstein, LME, Livernois.

I got Livernois's best package during blackfriday saved almost 300 bucks.

I agree every thing you can do to make the most power on the least amount of boost!

I’m with Laynlow. Save that money for fueling. One size smaller pulley will make more than factory cnc’d heads. You’re not making 1 more horsepower with your setup with the same fueling. Heads are terrible bang for the buck.

I don't believe there's anyway to know for sure unless you make the other mods, dyno it, then pull heads, P/P, then dyno again and compare. I paid HPE for head work but can't speak to any incremental HP gains.

I see you went with HPE for your heads. Can you tell me how that went as far as timeline to complete it, customer service experience and price compared to others like LPE? Also, did they provide estimated gains for their CNC head work?

Thanks

My experience with HPE has gone the way they said it would and the way I expected. I dealt with Grant until the car was returned to me. They have been responsive and timely. The car runs great and without issues.

I raised what I thought was short shifting on the 1/2 and 2/3 with them so they took the car back immediately and their diagnosis was tire spin instead.

I had decided to buy their 850 pkg. before I contacted them because I concluded the car would still stick to the road with that power (The GY 3Rs that came on the car were worthless on the street so I bought 4S).

I don't know and I doubt they know how much HP their P/P work is worth as it's just one of numerous mods that make up the 850.

The cam package was $3800 and a extra $1000 for ported heads. I am also getting there 775 hp package which has Kong ported blower and ported snout, 2” CSP long tube headers, griptech pulley package, and Rotofab big gulp. All together a tad over $10k. Hope it’s worth it. You guys have great information! I really appreciate it and I am hoping for mid 700 WHP! Might be dreaming.
