Delima, one after another. Brother needs some advice on swirl marks

Hey Guys,

Was suppose to pick up my brand new camaro today after signing the contract few days back. Noticed the car has light swirl marks kind of all over. Dealer said that they will polish and buff it and if it is not to my satisfaction then i can walk out and cancel my contract.

Eventually i may get a professional to do ceramic coating and i know that they do some paint correction before the coating. My delima is if i should just accept the car and manage it on my own since i heard that dealer detail and paint correction can be a hit or miss. Please advice fellas i have never been this confused in my life.

The dealership will not correct the swirls, it takes time and they work on how many cars they can wash an hour. They might use some filler waxes to help hide it though.

If you will do a ceramic coating and they will paint correct then this isn't really an issue.

I mean they already waxed it but i still saw the swirl marks in direct sun. They said they will buff the entire car. With that process it eats in to the paint a little so should i leave it or let them do it

Im no expert but from what ive gathered, do NOT let the dealer do anything to your car. No washing, waxing, buffing, or anything.

Mine is coming in the next few days and ive requested it not be driven, filled with gas, washed, or have the plastic removed.

Have your guy do the paint correction and ceramic coating and be done with it. If the dealer doesnt have a top notch detailer, do not let them touch it.

you want them to rinse the car so you can visually inspect the car, a dirty car can hide a lot of blemishes… A no touch rinse is all you need, Done by the dealer.

I guess i should have requested to do a no touch wash but its past this stage as they washed it and waxed it. Currently i cant decide if i should let them buff the entire car or take it as is and worry about it myself. Not sure how good their detailer is.

Since you mentioned it - I'd say do the ceramic coating a little earlier in your plans and take the car as is - after you give it a thorough inspection. No need to let the dealership have a shot at screwing up the buff job when the ceramic coating will include a paint correction anyway.

Ask them if they'd be willing to help pay the cost or a portion of it for a detailer of your choice to do the paint correction.

Your dealer is probably using a rotary buffer and will never get the swirls out. They will only create more! Plus, they are not going to properly do a paint correction. When you get it ceramic coated, let them do it and in the meantime, maybe you should get a Random Orbital Buffer and learn how to do some of this yourself. Good Luck!

any reputable detailer is going to charge you at least $1500 for a full paint correction and ceramic coating, depending on how many correction steps and ceramic layers you get. You will not like the results if you let the dealer do it. I would suggest if you can afford it now to do the paint correction and do a paint sealant yourself then a few months down the road after taking good care not to scratch put on ceramic then. After doing my car, my wife's car I am not sure I would do another in ceramic. I will apply paint sealant twice a year. If you want good information AutoGeek forums can help you out. Swirl marks are not that hard to get out if they are just swirl marks and I would not hesitate to buy a few products, pads and a DA polisher. DA you really cannot screw it up if you don't get too aggressive.

Swirl marks can not “come out”,
You can camouflage them or fill them in with waxes and treatments.
