I call "hoax" on this guy...
News story this week: Some guy on a southern CA freeway called the highway patrol to report that his "accelerator is stuck," and his cruise control won't turn off. His vehicle is speeding down the road, and he is afraid.
Over the course of the next few minutes, while his car's speed fluctuated between 70 and 90 MPH, the dispatcher offered him a number of suggestions. The dispatcher told him to put the car in neutral (duh) or turn the key off (also duh). The response was that he was that he couldn't, because he was too concerned about other people getting hurt. Wait... WTF does that have to do with dropping it into neutral? He had an excuse not to try any and every suggestion made by the dispatcher. He apparently never thought of trying the brakes, either. Oh, and he never put his seat belt on. And, when he finally crashed, he was "weaving and swerving around," according to witnesses. No reason, just weaving and swerving... Here's my theory: He is a nut, who wanted to be famous by getting himself on the news. And, he may also want to get paid, by claiming that his vehicle caused this by simultaneously having a cruise control malfunction and a stuck accelerator and no way to put the thing in neutral and no way to turn the key off and complete brake failure... and probably steering that went wildly out of control, too... maybe a failed seat belt, just to add to his award. There is something very, very fishy about this whole story. It makes no sense whatsoever. The media is having a great time with it, gravely suggesting that this could happen to any of us, at any time. However, I posit that this would be true ONLY if you, too, are a complete mental case. http://news.yahoo.com/video/911-call...232857123.html http://abc7.com/news/car-stuck-on-cr...rialto/994845/ |

Uh buddy, the SUA fad died out years ago. The new hip thing is to get pissed at VW for poisoning your air.

Let's be fair about this. VW did commit deliberate, massive fraud to cheat the EPA. I may not be the world's greatest fan of vehicle fuel economy regulations, but I wouldn't commit fraud to get my way.
