Car came with SCT tune, adding bolt ons -- reset and start over?

Hi all,

I do not know very much about tuning so I figured I would ask here.

I bought a used 16 m6 SS last year. It came with headers, res and cat delete and already has some type of tune on it via an SCT tuner. I had it dyno'd last fall just to see where it was at and it hit 410 best pull.

I am adding CAI and MSD manifold this weekend.

My question is, should I use the tuner that came with the car to reset back to factory and have an entirely new tune done for the car, or is there a way to adjust the existing tune to accommodate for the new add-ons?

Thanks in advance for the help...

What version tuner, is it a BDX ? I have one, got it for free a while back and bought a custom tune from RDP (Dyno Steve). It's a couple hundred bucks but you get free lifetime tune updates as you add and change equipment. I'd recommend doing something like that so your tune is optimal. I can attest Dyno Steve is awesome, I put him through the wringer with a bunch of changes and he'd shoot me the updated tunes within hours of me sending him a datalog.

The HP tuners are pretty much the benchmark for our cars for hyper performance, transmission tuning, etc. The SCT setup is good enough for bolt-ons though...

With what you're adding, you probably don't have to update the tune. I would do so but I'm an old man who worries about everything. Have fun with it!

ditch the sct and get a dyno tune with HP Tuners.

Just to update ---

Ended up getting the tune from dynosteve, then for shits and giggles drove down to a dyno shop and had it tweaked.

first pull put down 426hp @5500rpm and 437ft-lbs @4500rpm

after some very slight adjustments to air/fuel it put down 448hp @5400rpm and 457ft-lbs @4400rpm -- and this was on a 95deg day with stupid humidity

not bad from original dyno before adding the intake manifold and cai, which was 410hp

Did Steve make those adjustments while you were on the dyno? Nothing wrong with those numbers and a heckuva lot less than HP tuners with a custom tune.

No Steve didn't make the adjustments. I'm sure he would have if I asked, but it was ok. I just had the the tuner ( Tony from Tuners, Inc, Orange Park, Fl ) make the tweaks while I was on the rollers. He had quite the line outside the garage that morning. I had to drive over 2 hours just to get to a dyno, and when I got there around 10am there were already about 7 people in front of me.

So he's a SCT dealer/tuner too then. Cool. My best friend from my Navy days lives in Savannah and has taught HPDE there for years at RRR. He knows a guy.....

yeah, I gotta get this car on the track one of these days. Still need to do a few things ( change brake fluid for one! ) but I bet it'll be fun as hell. Only track time I've ever done so far was in my v6 camaro and that was a blast.

We definitely need a good dyno shop here. Only 1 dyno here at a bmw performance shop. I'm probably not going to do anything to the car soon will that require any tuning adjustments but send me the guy's info in case I need it. Never hurts to know a guy who knows a guy...

The guy in Savannah is Randy Carter. I don't know him or if he has a shop, I just know he tunes cars. I thought i heard he was building a shop there a few years back.
