Front Splitter vs. Tire Retread
Tire Retread won. FML Hit it on the highway doing 70. Those things should be illegal, they are everywhere

376 cubic inches of fun

If you drive on highways, shit happens.
I'm on my third windshield with the 2010 Camaro. I have also hit truck tire treads and narrowly avoided the ubiquitous aluminum ladders only to then pass cars pulled over with two or more flats. I have had a loose wheel and a section of I-beam bounce over my car at 70 mph, either of which would have killed me if the timing was a fraction of a second different. You can avoid daily driving your Camaro, but you are still daily driving your skull. |

glad the drivers are ok in the incidents noted above.
My philosophy about a car is different from some...... I DD mine all year around... it is a car, made to drive.... couldn't look at it in a garage for most of its life. The animal needs to run not be caged, so I enjoy driving it. Its not the last one I will own. Repair as needed to keep her on the road until a newer (younger), prettier one catches my eye; then trade up. |

my car is a DD, tread everywhere down here too. I just keep enough distance from the people in front of me so I can see the debris on the road.

Talking about debris, at 8000 miles I hit rubber tire debris on the road witch cracked my low bumper. At 12000 miles while getting on 826 hit cement slabs peace's it was dark and very little light, made a big bubble on my run flat tire, had to replace the tire and realign front end. At 16000 miles early morning getting on I75 they had cones out and we were down from 3 lanes to one lane and the car in front of me clipped a cone right in front of me and I ran over it which busted my lower bumper damaged my transmission cooler and damaged my dryer for AC all had to be replaced.
At 20000 miles a challenger that was in front of me on I75 ran over some tire debris which I could not avoid and clipped the bottom bumper which I was able to fix myself. |

Fortunately you can get these pre-painted, although they are pricey. I followed GlenE's advice for removal and remounting. The hardest part was cutting through the old adhesive with braided fishing line.

I've logged over 200k miles on I70 in recent years and seen some crazy shit. Had a 2x4 flipped up in the air by the car in front of me and I saw my life flash before my eyes as it flipped end over end toward my windshield. It hit the roof of my car, a few inches lower would have been through the windshield.
Truck tire debris is the worst. Big chunks are heavy and sharp, not unlike hitting a small deer. Just yesterday I noticed a trail of tire debris and began to look ahead as I expected a truck was in the process of losing a tire. Sure enough, a LNG tanker (yeah, that's safe) was doing 50MPH with his flashers on, with a completely derimmed tire just spinning and coming apart and throwing debris everywhere on I70. Should have pulled over! I just got around him as quickly as I could. |
