The "Official Vehicle" designation is actually for the 500, not for the Hot Wheels part.

In the past they would send 51 cars as festival cars for the Indy 500.They would then get sold used. Now they do 101 cars with 50 of those being new cars put out for sale immediately, and the used ones after the race. They are usually a Chevy product, although there have been some years where other manufacturers were the car of choice for the year.

These are given to local people to drive to help promote the race, as well as butter up those local people. Usually, they are members of the state, big wigs in business, and sometimes athletes...

These were the festival cars for the Indy 500 on the 100th anniversary..

Thanks for the info, I just didn’t look at the earlier 50HW pics close enough.

I spotted one of the convertibles on my commute home yesterday and thought "oh, a Hot Wheels edition"....than saw the logo on the side as he sped by...which prompted me to check this board out to see if there's a mention and found this.

I get a kick out the promo pics with all the tops down. It was probably near freezing when those pics were taken. It was under 40F yesterday...If those cars have the summer rubber on them, I hope those VIPs are being very careful - we've had only a handful of days over 50F this year so far...later Spring than usual. I usually take the winter tires off my car in March...but not yet this year - my rule of thumb is I need to see more days above 50 than below 50 in the 10-day forecast.

If you PM the admins and said that Lenore sent you from Camaro6, and that you are looking to buy one...they will usually let you join in.

Can't factory order footwell illumination kit with Hot Wheels package ?

So I asked my dealer to include the GM "footwell illumination kit" with my new 2018 Hot Wheels edition 2SS. However, I was advised this wasn't available on the car.

This doesn't make sense to me. I know you need the ambient lighting feature which is part of the 2SS.

My understanding is that this kit, supplements the temporary white light footwell illumination on the stock set up when doors open/close but then the illumination kit provides a soft coloured glow to match the colour on the ambient light feature for the footwell areas.

Any one have any feedback why GM won't accept this on a factory order ?

Same reason they wouldn’t accept the oem splashguards on my 50th order. The ordering matrix blocks certain accessories/LPO items on special edition cars. Dealer ordered a set for me and put on the car once it came in.

You can order your car and have the dealer order and install the lights once it comes in. It’s an LPO item anyway.

I have it on mine. It’s nice. But I wish it was brighter.

Appreciate the feedback. That was my plan B - to have it dealer installed but I just wanted to make sure there wasn't some technical reason why it wasn't possible which obviously there isn't.

Is my understanding correct that the footwell illumination LPO kit we're talking about will change colour to match whatever colour choice you've made on the primary ambient lighting feature ?

It’s a dealer installed (LPO) item even if you ordered it with the car.

But correct it’s not a incompatibility with the car. It’s just GM blocks some items on special edition cars.

And correct we are talking about the same thing. If you change your ambient light color the floor lights will match now with this item.
