Tire Discussion
I know tires have been talked a lot about on here, I’ve read them all and currently torn. I like the looks of a tire like the GY3R or the R888R but have read some awesome stuff about the PS4S (just hate how it has that all season look to the tire) and the side fact that I kind of want to go 345 on the rear and there isn’t a lot of tires that come in the 345/30/19.
Has anyone ran the R888R / PS4S? How good / bad are they for longevity? The 3R apparently only get like 10,000km on street use and I’d hope the R888R aren’t as bad. Obviously the PS4S is a 300TW so it’ll be better in that respect. Any input helps and is welcome as a set of tires in Canada is going to run about $2600+ for this thing...

If your buying a tire based on appearance your probably on the wrong forum. I have no experience with the R888r’s but do with the Michelin’s, they, as mentioned so many times are known to be the best combination of wet and cool weather performance and not far off from warm weather track performance from the GY’s and getting possibly 3x the mileage, remarkable! The GY’s are essentially slicks and act accordingly. Looks wise, it’s subjective.

I only have experience with the OEM GY supercar 3 tires and they are great for corners and response. I am going to give the R888R a go. I am looking for some more hook from a dig. I don't track my car just a weekend warrior that drives very spirited. I have heard alot of great things about the Michelin ps4 but I don't need a wet tire or cold weather tire since I only drive mine when it's nice out.

I would think your not going to get much more wear from the 888R, then you would the GYs. Michelin makes a great tire for both the street and track and you will get much more wear out of them.
I had NT01 for my track days with my corvette and they are an great track tire, but have absolutely 0 wet traction. I would seriously look at the Michelins if you where going street use only with some "spirited" driving mixed in. |

Goodyear 3R for street = bad
PS4s on street = good PS4s on track = bad Goodyear 3R on track = good

I have R888R on the rear and PS4S on the front, so I can't say how the PS4S do for straight line traction. But the R888R are great for hooking with over 600whp, and the PS4S stick great while turning.
Edit: the R888Rs are pretty loud. I also don't drive my car in any inclement weather or when it's very cold.

R888R is a 100TW track tire. It will work great when it's warm and dry. It will suck when it's cold or wet. It won't last long, and it will be loud.
It may be DOT, but it's not really designed for street driving. The stock GY SC3 isn't much better for the street, and not as good on track as R888R. The PS4S is a true street tire, and will be better all around on the street than either of them, with the exception of dry traction in warm weather. The limits of the PS4S are still going to be higher than any prudent pace on public roads. |

I've ben using the PS4S on the street for the past 2 years (about 12,000kms so far) and they have been great both in rain and cold temps. Based on the wear so far, I expect to get another couple of years out of them, and highly recommend them for street use, but they're not cheap - especially in Canada.
I've used the G3R's strictly for track, but I haven't been able to get through a full track weekend yet between picking up nails, screws and a cold temp destruction of a tire. When they're inflated (and warm) they're great for track use but I just I have not had a very good experience with punctures and/or issues seemingly every time I try to use them. I've used a couple of sets of Michelin SC2's for the track and I can get about 20 - 25 decent heat cycles out of them and have yet to pick up a puncture. Basically comes down to your interned use. It it's strictly street, then you can't beat the PS4S. |

Just buy the Michelin PS4S.
I've had mine since day 1 (had the dealer swap tires before delivery) and could not be happier. Streetability is excellent.

Nothing better for daily duty than the OEM tires here in Arizona

If you daily your SS 1LE, ZL1 and/or ZL1 1LE then your tires will wear out quickly.
IMHO, the stock tires are not meant to be driven on a daily basis. I changed my rear tires 8 months ago and they are good...only due to me having a different daily driver. |

My OEM tires have lasted 12k miles and still have a bunch of life left. Depends on HOW you daily drive your tires, haha
