Stephen, what’s the build date on your ZL1? I’m wondering about mine now.

Does anyone know if there is documentation as to when the oil pumps were updated due to their sporadic failing ?

Mine has the same build date as yours Stephen, April 2017! Hope I don’t have any problem with the oil pump!

I wish you well. Not sure if every car that has a similar build date is a death sentence. The vendor chosen for this vital part should be ashamed.

Just checked my build date. 8/17/17. Hope I am safe... 13,865 miles so far and oil pressure is just fine... Fingers crossed.

I will be watching my oil pressure gauge more closely now! I have around 7300 miles on mine so far(bought it with 422 miles used) and am going to have the oil changed soon.

mine seemed a little lower at the last 3 or 4 track events but nothing ridiculous...this event was the same as others until the warning light.

Melling makes the oil pumps for GM, lol

There's really no need to go to an aftermarket pump, the issue has been fixed if you just go buy a new pump from the dealer, or if it fails they're going to put in the new one for you.

Thread derail:

What are the potential bad months / how do you find out your build month?

Look at your door jamb sticker. It has a month & year on it.

There's a whole thread about it - https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=532479

Basically, it seems to be about ZL1's built between April and November of 2017. From all the time I spent researching it, I saw most failed pumps were from April, July, and October build months, with a few others in November.

But GM has revised the original oil pump part number something like 4 times, with the latest version seeming to be the fixed version (thicker walls around the pump housing to prevent cracks). I have an April build and am sort of waiting for the pump to fail.
