id only go with the 2019 1SS if i could save enough money to get the black front trim painted body color.im just not a fan of that look.before the flaming starts,or i hurt some proud new SS owners feelings i do realize that only my opinion, others might love the black.

Indy, I would go with the 2020 LT1 if I were you since you don’t want a lot of options on a Camaro. It seems to fit the bill for you and it will be sort of a rare model I would think. I wish they made a lower cost version of the ZL1 but it is what it is! My 2017 doesn’t have but 4 options and that’s one of the reasons I bought it and of course the price was the main reason. Couldn’t afford a new one so I bought used.

It would seem to me that the LT1 trim will suite your needs just fine.

And if you plan to keep the cost down on the LT1 then don’t get the Recaro seat option. They are nice but you might as well get a 1SS 1LE if you are going to get them. The stock Camaro seats are good also and won’t run up the cost of the LT1.

I see the LT1 as being as close to a rolling chassis or blank slate V8 as GM is allowed to sell and still have it be a legal car for the roads. I, personally, would never own one. I do feel as though the car was specifically built to cater to the drag racing crowd but, therein, I don’t care for drag racing so that compounds the issue. 455hp/tq is still a lot of power and to be rolling around with equipment even lower than the base model SS comes with, blows my mind. I wouldn’t feel as secure in the vehicle unless I was just building it for the track.

when did your mom let you graduate from the bubble up to just a helmet when you leave the house? get real, man. the cars are light years ahead of anything performance even 10 years ago. braking, general safety and chassis design just a few points. i loled when i read your response. the cars are mid teen cars from the factory, not rockets by any stretch of the word.

I'm going the 1LZ route. I can add rear brakes and the oil cooler+hi cap radiator myself. I'm bummed the Bose system isn't available. I can get some speakers though. Hell, I've had to do that in the rest of the cars I've owned any way.... Planning on the M6, the NNP, and a few cosmetics. I don't need the weight/headaches like you've said. It sound like a lot of people are planning a similar route, so I am sure it will be a popular option. |

I prefer the SS for better brakes, even for street use and less of a risk of overheating.

I understand the financial aspect, yet I wouldn't consider anything below the 2SS. The reason is that retrofitting any significant functionality into a lower trim is typically expensive and negates or even turns around any upfront savings, and people start wanting these features after a while. A somewhat higher monthly payment is less painful IMO.
Even the 2SS is only just okay against the competition in terms of interior amenities, and if someone isn't interested in these, they are usually after track goodies and the 1LE. (Yeah, I do see the irony about my retrofitted supercharger and not having chosen the ZL1, but this is a bit of an exception, the overall cost is still lower than a ZL1 and there is a journey to these upgrades that I enjoy, even though I know my car isn't equivalent in all respects.)

For the price difference i see it just don't make sense getting a LT1, i would have to go with the SS for every performance reason even if you only plan on going straight or just a daily driver . I don't care how much weight it saves for a $3k price difference the SS is a cost effective starting point . It's just like over the history of Camaro and people who drag raced the car of choice was the Z28 ,didn't see many Berlinettas or Type LT running the streets , I'm sure there was some but nothing like the Z28 was used . The only sense i see in LT1 at its price point would be in the future if the SS goes to the LT2 and bumps up HP and cost the LT1 remains the same .
