Convertibles ride like tanks?

I'm shopping for a '16 2SS, and I test drove a convertible, only 25k miles. It was very rough ride on these crappy Ohio roads. I know they have to make the body stiffer, to compensate for no roof line, but how much does that effect the ride? I did notice a vibration while driving, which wasn't present in the hard top I test drove next, so I'm not sure if that car has other issues. So I guess my point is, do you sacrifice ride quality for a soft top?

If it vibrates don't get it. I got a 18 coupe in November 17, it not as smooth as my other cars I got when they were new. Just must be how they are.

I can't comment on the 'verts, but I do have 2 coupes and they have no vibration. One with mag ride, one without.

Before I bought my 2016 vert I test drove both coupes and verts. I did not notice any ride difference. In terms of performance the coupe is superior, but as far as DD there really was no perceivable difference for me. I do not track my car but love the way it handles in the corners and there is no vibration at all. Do by a vert, they rock. Do not by that car if there is a vibration. Good Luck!

If the road is bad, the road is bad. No camaro (or any car) will make the road any better. If you want a lazy boy ride on a crappy Ohio road, go buy a 73 sedan deville.

Generally speaking a convertible version of any car is normally more compliant vs. a sister coupe, but the Camaro is engineered quite well and doesn't twist, flex, or shake.

If that 2ss is vibrating or doing anything that doesn't seem right, don't buy it.

Most likely the SS has run flats which some people feel that it rides stiffer. 2nd the SS has a stiffer suspension again harsher ride but I’ve drove a number on verts and own a 17 SS fifty anniversary edition with the optional ride control. In track mode it’s firm but in touring mode smooth. Maybe yours hade it and it was in sport mode which again stiffens it up. But none I have ever driven vibrated. Could been in wreck.

No MRC on mine and it’s extremely smooth on good roads, handles awesome and very stable at high speed. Rough roads, expect a rough ride. There are no vibrations...

I agree with Bigdog9586.....

Driving on horrible Michigan roads, my '16 vert rides "rougher" than my '17 ZL1.... and its directly related to the run flats. My '12 vert rode smoother due to the lack of ROF's. I get no vibrations whatsoever.... except the rare occasion after the car has sat and the tires get flatspot and it always goes away within a mile or two.

The vibration is a no go... bent wheel or some other issue.

If the convertible had an unusual vibration compared to the coupe you drove then it could be a car with problems that was traded in. My convertible with magnetic suspension is firm but not harsh with no unusual vibrations. It is also one of the quietest convertibles I've been in compared to past Camaros and other brands. I would suggest you test drive another convertible with the magnetic suspension and see how it feels to you. If this isn't what you're looking for then there are a lot of other brands that might be a better fit for you. Either way Good Luck with your purchase.

my car sometimes vibrates when in v4 mode (normal for saving gas)

put the car into manual mode to avoid it
