Get a magnetic drain plug they said...

So after much reading, I purchased a Dimple Products drain plug in September for a cool $41.60, today I changed the oil at 3K (second change new car) and found this! Not too impressed to say the least.

I haven't paid much attention to it but I dont think my dimple magnetic drain plug looks like that. Did you buy it direct through them?

Mine looked perfect after the first oil change (see pic) and at 8k miles still looks like new. It picked up quite a bit of metallic material (see tip in the picture). Once that was wiped clean it’s all that blue anodized type finish with no signs of any corrosion at all.

Are you sure you got the genuine part and not a cheap knockoff?

As previously stated that doesn’t look like a dimple plug (blue). Is the photo the stock plug? I have a magnetic Dorman on my truck. Works well

Here is the stock plug and the dimple plug when I changed mine out

Why would you spend that much for a $10 plug from NAPA that does the same thing, including the magnet, and is coated ...... ?

I bought the Dimple engine oil plug, trans fill plug, and trans drain plug and he gave me 3 for the price of 2 which I thought was a fair deal. I went with Dimple for the larger magnet and claimed better high temp capability: https://www.drainplugmagnets.com/

Surely your money but GM has been putting a good sized magnet in the trans pan that does an excellent job of catching the debris as the fluid washes over it.

Just to be clear, I was referring to the TR6060 fill and drain plugs, which are both non-magnetic from the factory. I wasn't aware of a magnet on the manual trans, but know it's common on the drain pan on autos, so just wanted to clarify that this was done on a manual.

Thanks for that info! I wasn't aware the TR6060 had that magnet.
