Evapo-rust

Does anyone use this stuff? I work for a company that deals with a lot of parts some of them that require cores to be turned in. Recently I returned some cores to our local cat dealer and they sent me an email stating that the cores were rejected because of excessive rust. They did have some rust on them due to an internal water leak. It is stated that one can not even clean them (unsuccessful attempt to salvage) as per the core acceptance criteria. Longer story short I had purchased some Evapo-rust from summit and this stuff is amazing. We took 12 other rocker arm cores and placed them in a gallon jug for about 6 hrs. No scrubbing at all and look at the results.

I used something like this years ago in a motorcycle tank that got rusty inside. The stuff was paint friendly, non-toxic, plant-based, pour it down the drain when done, and expensive as hell. Lol Worked great, though.

How expensive is this stuff from Summit?

I too use a product that is similar, that I came across nearly 35 years ago and still use....its called OSPHO and is still available, back then I got it at a marine supply store, now you can actually order it off Amazon. the last time I bought some, it came in the same 32 oz. bottle that the original came in that I bought 35 years ago. its the consistency of water....and it too is reusable. I have even used it on rusted parts of a frame.....wired brushed off the flaky stuff and used a cheap paint brush to coat it and let it dry....done deal.

I just did a search on line..... and Evapo-rust is a lot easier to get other that getting it from Summit, as its available from Lowes, Amazon , Tractor Supply, and Home Depot, at Home Depot a 5 gal. bucket is $76.

this is far from ospho. I used that many years ago too. If memory serves me correct it is a bit corrosive.

I have never seen it at any of those places. I will certainly do a search for store availability. I will be purchasing 3 more buckets of this.

Thanks for the tip

lol...I wished this stuff was around when I was building all the engines I have built in the past. I would have saved many many hours of wire brushing, varsol dipping time. Good luck with your new projects
