MyLink Software Version?

What is the newest software version?
Does anyone else notice how long it takes to skip to the next song over bluetooth using an iphone? For example I let the phone shuffle all songs and when I get to one I dont want to hear, I click the control on the steering wheel. Only it doesn't change right away. Sometimes I'd guess up to 5 seconds before it changes. Not the end of the world, I get that. BUT on my '17 Silverado when I change a song, it changes instantly, no lag at all.
I am trying to find out a few things. What is the newest software version? I can't find that info anywhere and all the links online read exactly the same, "to update the software just turn on your car".
Also, does anyone know if there was a hardware change between '16 and '17? Like perhaps the '17 has a better processor or something?
Other than that annoying lag it's a pretty good system I think.

An update which I find interesting. When I try to update the software manually it makes me insert a USB stick. So I went and got a stick. As soon as I insert it the screen says that there was an error. So I removed it and inserted it again. Same thing, says there was an error. I found on another forum that someone said they formatted the stick to fat32. So I did that, no help. I formatted it to just fat, no help. It just wont read the stick. I tried two different sticks, no joy. Any idea what's going on?

Mine updated once on its own when I connected it to WIFI. Maybe try connecting it wifi and see if it pushes you an update. But perhaps you are already on the latest software]

I have no wifi. I looked up how to connect and it has none of the settings other posts says I should have. I have no wifi setting. I did find one setting for wifi under the onstar tab but that did nothing. In fact it showed the setting I have for my truck. I never set one up for the Camaro, I never used it in the truck. Something goofy is going on with it. I read on another post that people have used their phone or home wifi to connect but I dont seem to have any of these settings.
I'm wondering if I should just hit the restore to factory settings?

I thinkwe determined on here that 2016 cars’ MyLink software cannot be updated. The other models can. Something about 2016 has a different OS.

Well that sucks! I still can't figure out why I can't back up the settings to a USB stick. Unless those were in some other format other than FAT or FAT 32?

I did go ahead and wiped it out to factory settings. No help.

If I recall correctly, and I could be wrong....

The 2016 HMI (Human Machine Interface Module) is what powers the MyLink system and is different than the 2017-2019+ HMI units.

The 2016 HMI is slower and has less memory compared to the other year HMI units. As well as the 2016 HMI can't take advantage of the GM AppShop.

The 2017-2018 HMI units have a slightly faster processor and more memory, allowing them access to the GM AppShop to add a few more functions to the vehicle. The 2017-2018 MyLink is able to update those Apps, not the MyLink software, via WiFi/OnStar Data connection.

The 2019+ HMI units are setup with the Infotainment3 system which allows what the 2017-2018 could do plus a lot more, including OTA updates to the MyLink system.

The only way that I am aware of (other than custom programming options via certain shops/vendors) to update the MyLink software on the 2016-2018 units is to take it into a dealership and have them update it.

Sounds like I'll be making a trip to a dealer. I'm still wondering why it gives me an error everytime I put in a USB stick.

Does it give an error when playing media from a USB stick or only when trying to do the update/backup option? If only the second option is when it gives error it’s due to that’s an option for the techs not us.

That's interesting and yes, it's only the second option. Thank you for the insight about this.

Most welcome. Keep us posted on what happens to your ride. I’m betting the HMI needs replaced if there are serious issues.

Sounds good. Yeah if they can’t flash new programming to it, which fixes most issues, then will need replace. Hoping just a reflash.

I had the appointment today and they did update the software in it. According to the service manager the tech had a difficult time getting it to communicate so I was there longer than they thought I would be.
The before software was :84089010
The after software version now says: 84131949

They also updated the maps for me as well which was a nice surprise. That went from version 23346621 to version 84201676.
The performance of it seems a little improved. I still think my Silverado is quicker but as was pointed out here before it has better hardware than the Camaro does.
Overall I'm happy they did it.
