Did the interior lighting strips for the doors change from 2017 to 2018 ??

I had 2017 RS with the lighting package and it produced a deep vibrant blue on the inside cabin door light strips.

I traded in the 2017 RS for a 2018 RS with the same lighting package but colors are not as deep and vibrant as the 2017 color strips were. Blue looks more whiteish and not that deep rich blue color of the 2017. Red on the 2018 is likewise a little washed out as opposed to the deep blood red of the 2017.

I checked out other 2018s and they are just like my 2018 so I am thinking GM may have switched vendors or changed the specs for the color strips between 2017 and 2018? I do miss the colors my 2017 had. Anyone else notice this?

I have no idea if they changed anything but I believe the color is controlled entirely by the accent lighting control module so you could check to see if the part number is different between the two years. If it is you should beagle to just swap it for the 2017 version. The other possibility is they might have just changed the LEDs used. Even just a different binning could change the hue.

Thanks for the reply. I think the LED is different only because I remember the 2017's LED was a flat 2mm wide strip while 2018 LED is a rounded. I know this because I used a q-tip to dust the LED that sits in the door's aluminum channel when detailing the inside of both cars. It was obvious that the shape of the exposed LED strip was different. The 2018 LED strip also looks more opaque with a whitish frosted look when looked at with the car turned off and the door open. (when I detail the cabin)

But maybe the LED is not a factor at all even if it was a different manufacturer. It could very well be the controller. Or maybe someone at GM altered the color codes. I don't know.

Anyone out there spend time with both the 2017 and 2018 and notice this?

I used autotrader to find 2 used 2017 Camaros with the lighting package.
Each one was at different dealers. I went to see them "back to back" and
checked out the door and center cup holder led strips. I didn't ask to drive
either car.

During the day the colors were much easier to see by looking at the center
console cup holder led strip.

2017 2.0T RS model had the deep blues and deep reds exactly like my 2017 V6 had.
2017 V6 RS model had the whitish blues and whitish reds exactly like my 2018 V6 has.

For the color red, the 2.0T was a deep blood red and the V6 was a whitish red
with a slight pink-ish hue in comparison. No it's not pink but compared to
blood red it had a different and lighter hue to it. Both dealers were right next
to each other (used car lots) so I literally walked from one lot to the other with
very little time passing between looking at each car.

So I confirmed my memory of the LED strips being different. GM must have
multiple vendors for their lighting parts. The fact that the 2.0T door and cup
holder LED strips were both deep blues/reds and the V6 door and cup holder
LED strips were both whitish blues/reds suggests maybe the control module
is the factor in all this? Or the 3 LEDs strips were sourced from different
vendors for each car?

I'd like to figure this out but if I call a dealer parts dept they won't understand
what I am talking about unless I had 2 cars parked out front to show them.
Then they would probably say "Gee I don't know... They are different but who cares"
I don't like the Reds and Blues of my current car so if I can nail this down
I could shop ebay for used parts.

I want to replace the LEDs in my car with something brighter since during the day you can barely tell they are on. I'll let you know if I ever get around to doing it since maybe it'll solve your issue too.

There is no way it's a matter of defective LEDs.

I noticed the shitty color palette of my 2018 LEDs the first day I had
the car. All of the colors are different from my 2017. Green isn't deep
deep either on my 2018, it's more yellowy. I don't think my 2018's
LEDs are dimmer, I think the colors just suck dead donkey.

The 2 different 2017 Camaros I looked at on used lots on Monday
mirrored the same differences as my 2017 was to my 2018 model.
It's clear to me either the lighting controller is different or the LED strips.

I am leaning towards the lighting controller as the issue. Did some
blind-as-fauck person at GM decide to alter the lighting controller's color
palette mid-cycle in the 2017 production run??

The Lighting package costs $2800 extra so yeah, I'll use bad words.
Just like with the wonderful A8 shudder feature that we all love to death.
