Man, that sucks!! Did you slide into dry grass that ignited from the exhaust or something?

My best guess would be that the hot exhaust caused grass or some other material to catch fire under the car. Definitely not a vehicle defect if so. In fact, this exact thing happened to one of my bosses at a BMW ride & drive event. He went off track, and the car caught fire due to resting on flammable materials.

We're not sure on the cause of the fire, but most of the flames were directly underneath the passenger seat where the battery cable/electronics run.

Not to sound snarky, BUT

You want GM to cover a fire as a warranty issue, yet you have absolutely zero idea HOW the fire started, what caused it, etc...

I really have no idea why GM is denying your claim...

Guessing you did not purchase track day insurance either...

You would know if the fire started inside the car OR underneath the car???

Best we can tell is that the fire started underneath from a ruptured fuel line then heat from fire shorted out the electrical under the passenger seat. Either the fuel continued to fan the fire and/or the electrical short kept it burning.

Sadly at best it's going to be a part out car. That car would probably go for 20-25k in the region I live in its current condition.

Forgive my ignorance, but why would the car have a salvaged title? I was thinking that only happens when insurance gets involved? Did you buy the car back from the insurance company or something?

Hi Travis. Yes, I purchased back the vehicle which is why the salvaged title was issued. I own the vehicle free and clear.

Hey man, first of all that really really sucks. Like, REALLY SUCKS. A simple off track excursion should never lead to a fireball.

However, definitely not on GM. I don't think you'll be able to get them to cooperate, and I dont think most folks looking at this from the outside will think they are at fault either. This is why you have car insurance, and at the track, why you should hopefully have track insurance, which would have covered this. It's definitely a shame and i feel for you big time. Ugh.

I'm still of the opinion that a car designed for the track shouldn't go up in flames at the track, but hey, shit happens and that's why there's track insurance. I get that.

My loss could be someone else's gain. I know there were some people on the forum earlier talking about GT4 cars and using the ZL1 1LE just for the track... Instead of gutting the interior of a brand new $73k car, here's one at half the price. For someone interested in a dedicated track car, this could be an attractive option. Does anyone know anyone that might be looking in that direction?

So there is more than paint and interior that needs replacing...
