How to Determine if Used Wheels are 433mhz?
I needed another set of wheels and tires so I could do the summer / winter swap. I found a set of wheels off a duplicate car to mine (2018 1SS 1LE) and I purchased the factory wheels with Michelin 4s tires. The seller indicated that the TPMS sensors were factory. My RPO code was an XL8 which indicates I have 433mhz TPMS sensors. I wanted to purchase the EL-50448 reset tool but how can I determine if the used wheels with tires mounted have 433mhz sensors? If there is no way to make that determination, is there a tool that can cover all the different frequencies? I really like the appeal of the $10 EL-50448.

The EL-50448 is just a relearn tool with no display. A more expensive TPMS tool like a VT31, VT36 or VT56 has a display that can show the frequency of the sensor. A local tire shop probably has a tool that can read the sensor frequency to save you a few bucks.
I think the EL-50448 can trigger either 315 or 433 mhz. sensors but the TPMS sensor has to match the car's frequency. If your wheels have 315 mhz. sensors then the car won't be able to read them no matter what tool you use to trigger relearn. In that case you would have to replace the TPMS sensors. |

Thanks Mark114. Do you know if they used both 315 and 433 in 2018? I assume there are multiple frequencies, thus the need to check the RPO codes. I guess I could go by a tire shop and see if they will check the frequency for me.

Thanks Trochoidal. I think I read that one during my search but upon reading again it helps.

Yeah, Mark is correct for your original question. The EL-50448 works on all Camaro TPMS sensors, so it doesn't matter which RPO code you have. If the sensors worked for the previous owner they should work for you.
I'm a little confused on which wheels you bought and what you mean by "factory" sensors, but chances are they're the correct ones since all of the V8 Camaros and the V6 1LE use the same sensor (assuming you meant you bought factory wheels that had the original TPMS sensors in them). If you already have the wheels and the seller doesn't know, easiest way to tell is to get the EL-50448 and try to program them. The LF sensor should pair easily, and you don't need to install the tires on the car to check.

Thanks Alpha1BC. This is helpful. Sorry if I was not sufficiently descriptive. I and the seller both have 2018 SS 1LEs. He replaced his S3s with Michelin 4Ss and retained the factory TPMS sensors. He then sold me the wheels, tires, TPMS sensors, all assembled off his vehicle. After everything I've read, I feel pretty confident that both cars were built with 433mhz TPMS sensors and the same tool will work for both. I didn't think about trying the tool before putting these wheels on for the summer.
