Mamo Vs Katech TB
Hey guys. Going to be buying a ported TB soon just not sure who to go with. I have seen lots of great stuff but a close friend is recommending Katech? Is there a big difference between them?

I am sure Katech is nice I know there are people that run it and I haven't heard anything bad about it. Lot of people go to Brett with Pray Porting, that is who I went through. Something else to think about I have seen dyno graphs on the forums here you would have to search it but the 95MM was better then the 103MM on different set ups.

Heard tons of good reviews about Mamo's TBs, I my self will be able to give you a review in a few days with video evidence.
My friends '18 SS had gained 12 WHP/9 WTQ from the install w/o a tune and noticed INSANELY better throttle lag

I had a Mamo TB, but had some surging issues. Unfortunately I had a hip surgery right after installing it, so I did not drive it much.
By the time I was driving it my warranty expired (30 days) and I was told I could not return for a full refund, but I could buy another one at a discount. I decided to try Soler and haven't looked back since! Very satisfied with the Soler and I had a few issues at first, but Soler's customer service is unbeatable. They paid for shipping to return the TB, and sent another one to use on their dime. Just another option to look at. I haven't tried Katech, but I hear a lot of good things about them as well.

Had great success from Tony Mamos ported 87mm Tb. He has a V2 out now that he says has some improvements to the earlier V1.
If it is at the minimal any better than the V1 you wont be dissatisfied that's for sure. |

My opinion is neither.
An 87MM TB is still a 87MM TB ported or otherwise. IMO to make messing with the TB worthwhile you need to upgrade the manifold (if necessary to run a larger TB) and go with a larger diameter TB. If a 102 setup is worthwhile on a H/C LS1 then why is a much more efficient GEN5 LT1 worth staying with a 87MM TB if you're looking to mod that area for more performance? I'm not saying there's no throttle response amd maybe a little HP to be gained with a ported LT1 TB, but IMO these motors should be able to benefit much more from a 4" + TB. IDK maybe people just don't want to have to deal with a tune, or maybe people think the 87MM TB is capable of feeding the motor all the air it can use with an OEM cam, and air intakes available for these cars. I've not messed with a ported LT1 TB, but I've used them on 3 other cars, and the difference between a stock TB and a ported OEM TB is minimal in my experience. Will a factory LT1 manifold allow the use of a larger TB? Remember that company that would take LS6 manifolds and mount the LS2 inlet to them to get a more efficient LS6 manifold that could be used with a 90MM TB? |

87mm bore stays the same but the throttle shaft is cut down and the entryway is heavily tapered. Since the throttle shaft is right smack in the middle of the air stream, there is a pretty good gain inflow and there is less turbulence. I agree coupling this with a ported intake is like peanut butter and jelly. I have both a Katech and a home ported job, a home ported intake manifold, I think it was well worth it. My car was an absolute beast FBO and E85. In fact probably the most fun setup was FBO and E85 with the M6.

I have a Soler ported TB and really like it. I was not looking for HP gains at all. The throttle response is what I was looking to improve and the Soler TB made the car drive much better. It's an M6 and I have been driving a manual for years and even after 5 months of driving my 2018, I would still stall it on occasion. The new Soler TB gave me the throttle response that I wanted. I then added the Soler Throttle Controller. Still don't have more than 10 miles on that, but so far I like it and for $75, you can't go wrong.
Also, Mike at Soler Engineering customer service is fantastic. Could not be any better in my case.

I agree with mating up a big ported throttle body with a bigger manifold. I had a Soler LT1 ported unit and it gave me great throttle response but when I got an Atomic AirForce manifold, got an LT5 Soler unit to go with it and that's when I really felt a power difference. Soler is awesome for sure from my experience...
