Launch Control

So I finally figured out launch control. Turns out I just didn't have my foot down hard enough on the brake pedal. I have an automatic. It's definitely faster with launch control. My question however is the mph still goes up a little and the tires spin slightly before I actually take off. Is this suppose to happen?
How does this launch look?

It depends. I have tried it several times, and once in a while the tires give off a little chirp before settling down. It may be because I didn't have the brake pressed hard enough.

I can get a quicker launch finessing the skinny pedal without using launch control. In my opinion, it robs the car of a little more usable power trying to manage the wheel spin.

While driving home yesterday, I had in it track mode to listen to the exhaust and turn off the radio. At one point, I got a beep form the DIC and when I looked down it said "Performance Shifts Active" and the car wouldn't go below 3000rpm.

How did I trigger this? It felt amazing. Is there an online version of the complete operations manual to figure out all the in & outs? Being able to just reference that would be great.

Thanks.

The car senses your driving.... If you are in sport or track mode it will activate if it senses a more aggressive driving style.... every time I pass someone quickly it activates. It acts very similiar to a manual and uses engine braking and higher rpm upshifts. Hold the gears longer. Very neat feature....

It activates when you go full throttle. You might trigger it doing a burnout.

Tried launch control today and just stomping it in Competitive Mode.

Launch control -- repeatedly ran 4.6/4.7 with a full tank of gas and two people in the car, factory tires @ 36psi. I can see where people are saying launch control is consistent, but the driver can do better with practice (and I'm a little concerned about what this does to the factory torque converter and trans fluid/temp).

Competitive Mode -- stomping it in this mode made a very satisfying rolling burnout that didn't allow the car to go totally sideways. The car just gently swung back and forth, like a slow wag. Actually felt pretty good.

I definitely need to take the car out more nights to BFE and let the woman play spotter (in case something stupid happens in BFE, someone should be standing to make the call right?). What rpm are people manually stalling at or is 2k the limit on the A8? Is it more just about pedal position on green and gradually mashing it as you run through first gear?

Would love to learn from the guys that are already hooking up pretty well with the car.

Thanks in advance.

When you go into the DIC configuration menu under Settings, you can enable/disable which pages you want. The 0-100mph is another page that is disabled by default.

After I finally tried launch control, I found that it produces the most consistent 4.6s 0-60mph I have ever seen (not saying much). This was two adults and a full tank of gas. I don't think dropping a person and most of the gas would get me more than 1/10th off. So I believe it when people say a driver can do better, since the factory rating is 4.0s with the A8 on an unprepped surface. Those that swap to wider wheels with stickier tires and have more seat time in their car probably can get the 3.8s that some have reported.

go into the performance settings with the left arrow, bottom arrow. It will read performance. Use the down arrow to move. The zero to 60/100/0-100-0/.25 mile page will say you must be stopped to use, must be stopped to use.

once you are stopped, you push select. Once you touch the accelerator the timer starts.
