General G-Max AS05 real world experience
Can any members chime in on the G-Max AS05 those who have this tire? I am not happy with my BFG Comp 2's they seem slippery and noisey at 23k miles- also wore out. I DO not track, burnout etc.

Had the AS-03's on my 2010, absolutely hated them. Maybe they got better when they moved to the 05's.

I have the General AS-05. Enjoyed them for about 20k miles so far. They are getting noisy though. Rears are almost done, fronts seem barely worn.
23k miles is the limit of the warranty. So not bad that you managed to get there.

Also an owner of the AS-05. So far it has yet to let me down. It has a wee bit less grip than the run flats at lower speeds but nothing that will make you hit a wall or curb. Wet grip is absolutely fantastic, it feels like there's no water on the road at times. In torrential rain like conditions it holds it's own very well, just be wary of large puddles, since it can give a bit of hydroplaning but the car corrects itself very nicely. Although I wouldn't recommend going over 70-80mph in such conditions. Not that I dont trust it but just dont take your chances and be the first to find out. Does good in slush as well. Snow I didnt bother testing for obvious reasons.
Performance wise it is a compromise. You'll sacrifice the turn in nimbleness compared to the GY. Straight line is as mentioned above in lower speeds it will wiggle a bit then go. Higher speeds is fine in my stock car. |

These are my November-April tires and I like them better than the stock run flats I use in summer.
Just got the email that general has a $70 rebate through 4/30/2020. |

Have them on my car for 2k miles so far. Drove the original run flats for3k miles, and now these for 2k miles. Here's what I think. In the cold, they are night and day different. The generals will grip, the run flats did not all unless they got warmed up a little. The generals are much better in the rain. Super traction in the wet, run flats, well forget about it. The generals make the steering feel a little numb at first, but I am used to it now. Generals grip great when hard cornering. Contrary to what has been stated here before, they are not quieter. I run with a decibel meter in my car, and tested both in the same exact conditions, same road, same speed, everything was the same, and they both had the same decibels. Can't comment on wear obviously.

Had them on my 1st gen6 and liked them, just ordered another set to replace these crappy Nitto 555 G2's that the previous owner put on this car before he traded it in.

I drive 270 miles a day 5 days a week, I like them. I was pretty impressed at their dry traction and they are great in the rain.

There's no tire in these sizes that is really going to give you much more at 23K. I generally call 20K pretty fortunate mileage. Note too manuf 1/2 the mileage warrenty in staggered setups because they wear like shat. the General AS05 youre looking at isn't going to be much different maybe worse at 23K...you're asking a lot of this sort of tire, mileage and life and grip at that point. My comp2 A/S I'm a big fan and have it on the 1LE now and my 15 Mustang GT/PP1 before that. There's not be a lot of A/S tire talk it generally focuses on the AS3+ from Michelin to go "top of the line", as it were. |

I was considering the gmax but Michelin was running a promo with a 70 dollar rebate which made them about the same price as the general. Bought the Michelin as 3+ and they are very good. I have about 6000 miles on them and I am very pleased would buy again.
Michelin has the promo going on now https://www.michelinman.com/rebate-hub They also have a “Hit the open road” promo going on which is 50 bucks. I was able to stack these rebates for 120 bucks. Did this today for some tires for my wife’s car. I am pretty you can stack with the pilot sport as3 +. I used discount tire. That’s a decent deal. Last edited by huiez; 03-27-2020 at 03:48 PM. I'm going to have to buy some new rears some time this year. They're at about 23,000 miles. Pretty much worn down.
