Headers with Borla Catback

Hi everyone,

I currently have a Borla S-Type (mufflers and x-pipe 60606) on my SS 1LE, which is otherwise stock. I'm looking at getting some catless long tubes. Do any brands match up with the Borla X, or will I have to do some cutting regardless? I know some brands offer "connection" pipes, but I'm not sure if they'd bolt right up. Any input is appreciated.

Currently looking at Speed Engineering and TSP, for what it's worth. Don't have the budget for Kooks or ARH. Thanks.

Just be sure to have at least 3 days to do the install, if you're doing it yourself.
Good idea to be sure the headers and exhaust will match up.
Also budget for a tune once the headers are in.

3days!? I was done in about 6 hours on jackstands. I would give borla a call and get a definitive answer.

Well there it is, some are much more experienced then others.
I don't want to assume the OP will be able to shoe horn in headers and install an exhaust as quick as 6 hrs.
Better to have more time, than not enough.

My Kooks took me almost a whole day...and that was just the passenger side!

Many, many things lol. From lost bolts, to not being able to fit the header in, to jack stands not high enough, to steering wheel moving when detached at link, figuring out a way to get the starter back in, trying to keep the gaskets on, I could go on and on and on lol. I guess I figured out I'm not as good as I thought with working on cars hah!

You and me both...I think I spent more time looking for the wrench I just had and then my glasses...now where is that flashlight...damn, that bolt fell into a black hole...my hands were not made to fit in there!!

Oh those spark plugs are worse getting in then they were getting out!
Take the starter out to put the header in, then figure how to get the starter back in...up, down, up, down...my abs are killing me!

Then at the end of it all, the AWE exhaust doesn't connect to the Kooks Headers...Great and Fun project!

I never removed the starter. Just the heat shield and Was able to slip the header in. As far as losing bolts etc. I can’t relate.

Did mine on jack stands in my garage. Took 8 hours or so including setup and cleanup.

did mine in about 8 hrs. but i was also doing the cam install as well. so had alot of things out of the way already.

The xpipes that borla makes should mate up fine. I cut my stock exhaust, it looks like dookie, but its under the car anyways, and performance makes no difference. If your concerned how it looks, id go with borla, will be easier and less of pain the ass but think it cost like 1000$ more then tsp.

added side note: if you do 2 inch headers... come in from the bottom, use highest notch on 6 ton jacks in the front and you will get the car high enough to clear the floor. Found this way easier.
