The Mustang Mach-E GT, 480 HP and 634 FT/LB is nothing to scoff at. I think it would make a great family vehicle when that time comes for me.
It wasn't the electrification of the Mustang but the transformation to a 4 door CUV that has generated the most pushback. I hope the Camaro lives on and for that to happen it will need an electric powertrain option but it should remain a 2 door coupe. When you say you drive a Camaro people know what you mean, similar to a Corvette. Mustang has lost that identity.

I do welcome the performance potential of electric vehicles but won't own a sports car without a manual. I'm not too confident any manufacturer will make an electric sports car with a manual but you never know.

To be fair I believe Ford should leverage the Falcon name. It does have a performance pedigree (in OZ). But if they use Mustang, so be it.

If the Mustang Mach-E was instead named the Ford Electra, we would have read a couple days worth of articles after it’s announcement and crickets. If they have the Mustang, Mustang Mach-E, Mustang-E Sedan, Mustang Mach-E Coupe, so be it if that’s what it takes to keep the gas powered V8 Mustang alive.

On the flip side, the concern is that all those other things trading on the Mustang's history and heritage could end up squeezing the ponycar Mustang out of the niche it created.

Or maybe it keeps the Mustang alive 20 years longer than otherwise. There’s no denying, there will be a day when there’s no gas powered vehicles being produced.

Today I saw one of the "Mach E" cars in the wild for the first time. Taillights caught my eye as something unusual. Then I saw the Mustang logo on the back which clued me in to what it was.

When I told my girlfriend that was the new Mustang, the first thing out of her mouth (and she isn't a big car person) was, "That's not a Mustang!"

Larry Shinoda is rolling over in his grave???

I see more Chargers on the road than any other sedan so it makes sense for Ford to offer something too. As it sits, neither Ford or Chevy offer a sporty four door car and I almost guarantee if Ford built a mustang sedan, it would do really well sales wise. I'm a die hard Chevy fan, but there's no denying that Ford is killing the game right now, especially with the new Mach E and Lightning. Chevy is falling extremely behind and the sales reflect that, especially with the Camaro. It also doesn't help that the Camaro factory is shut down. Competition is great and we should all be open to it because with hope, Chevy will offer something to compete. I really liked the SS sedan, so I imagine a four door Camaro would look awesome as well

Man, that rear end...

The only angle I actually liked on the Mustang, and they managed to mess it up completely on this one.

Except the current Mustang GT sells better than the Camaro despite being slightly slower and less low end torque. The v8 Camaro is overall a more fun car to drive.

Mach E is just plain awful. Generic as hell.

This. In 2019, Ford very directly said that they were going to focus on three sub-brands:
  • Bronco
  • F-150
  • Mustang

So, where are they now with this strategy?
  • Bronco Sport (4-door FWD) is already on the street
  • Bronco (2-door RWD) is late, but on it’s way
  • Mustang Mach E is already on the street
  • A Mustang sedan and another EV (probably the same vehicle) on the way
  • F-150 Lightning announced

Yes, this is different than the way things were, but know what? Go back far enough and everything is different than it was before. If nobody takes a risk and does something different, things stagnate.

On the extreme side, been in the cookie aisle of your local supermarket lately? Get a pack of Oreos. I’ll wait. Since the beginning of time (1961 for yours truly) Oreos have been black cookie sandwich with white creme center. Period. Now there must be 30 different variations. Oreo fans could have prevented this if only they had got out their pitchforks and fired up their blogs, right. They could have named those cookies something else and left Oreo as the familiar black and white cookie sandwich, but no, they had to go fix what wasn’t broke. How’s that working for them? I’ll answer that...quite well actually. And what’s become of good ol’ Levi’s jeans? You want boot cut or regular cut or skinny cut? You want dark dye or light dye or distressed?

So Ford’s taking a risk by taking their iconic brand names and extending them into different configurations then what many are used to. Good on ‘em. It worked for Levi’s. It’s working for Oreos. The answer is, buy the variant you want and ignore the ones you don’t want. Or take your ball and go home with the belief that it will tank the company and show them the error of their ways.
